That's right guys, another Strat topic...
Anyway, what do you think of this?
Neck: Hot Rails
Middle: JB Jr
Bridge: Hot Rails
It's for a pretty rocked-up music style, think Maiden, etc.
Also, I am a bit in the dark about pots, can anyone tell me how they are important?
Thanks in advance.
You are probably aware, but the Maiden Strat that was out for a year was Hot Rails in the neck and middle and a JB jr.in the bridge. However, I like the Hot Rails in the bridge for stuff like punk and Maiden. It'll get some old Metallica too, but it's a little too bright in a Strat for the heavier styles. I'm not sure how the JB jr would sound in the middle. Maybe it'll give you three distinct usable sounds?
It seems like it'll work well for hevier rock music. If it were my guitar, I'd use 500k pots, using one tone pot exclusively for the bridge and the other for the neck, leaving the middle with only a volume knob. This will give you more control over the bridge and neck pickup tones and a brighter mid position to cut through when needed.
I would also recommend using all push/pull pots. That way you can split all 3 pickups, which should give you a couple more sounds to play with.
