Does anyone have comments or complaints on slim profile necks? What are the benifits of having a slim neck? I'm gonna buy an LP and you can buy a slim profile neck axe for the same price.
I don't know how slim a les paul slim neck is. But my shecter has slim neck and I notice when chording that my hands tries out a little quicker. I figure its because the neck isn't filling my hand as much and supporting it some.
Personally, i hate slim necks.
They doesn't feel comfortable when playing (especially when doing a two-hour gig), they make the guitar less sturdy to temperature\humidity changes, and most importantly, they KILL your sustain and tone. Especially the quot;thicknessquot; of each note.
But, one mans dirt is another mans treasure . Atleast, you have my advice!
Rock on!

Some people like it more, but for a 7-string the neck must be thin, lol, and the H-207's neck can hardly be called thin haha.
I like thin necks because they just feel better to me.
I can play either... thinner necks tend to be faster in general, but also more tiring in the long run, esp with improper technique. Thicker necks tend to be slower but more comfortable for long playing times.
I personally prefer mine on the medium-thin side, fast enough for semi-shredding but easily comfy enough for hours of recording or live at a time
i hate really thin necks, they just feel terrible IMO. a shining example is a friend's ibanez....that thing is so thin that its damn near impossible for then to make a smooth curve on the back on the neck for it to join the fretboard properly. feels awful, like playing a thin rectanglular neck or something

I'm going to disagree with this. The neck of my 7 string is much thicker than what you'll find on an Ibanez 7 string, and for me personally it's much more comfortable and natural. It fits my hand. On the Ibanez profile, I feel like all I should be doing is one fingered power chords in a drop tuning.I used to be crazy about slim necks. The thinner the better, for rhythm or for lead. Now, I'm crazy about big fat necks. I actually want to try a warmoth neck with the 1quot; thick profile to see how it feels.
i went through that quot;thin necks are betterquot; thing back when i was 18 or so and then i realized that thin necks hurt when you actually do anything but wank...i mean shred so a nice medium C for me please!

those little slim necks make my hands hurt after a while of playing not to mention that IMO most guitars sound better with a bigger neck so, I get the largest neck I can find when shopping...I do have a few guitars with slim necks on them but it's not my preference.
I love thin necks, but my absolute favorite is the ultra neck which is thicker than a wizard. Like everyone else stated, your hands will get tired after alot of chords. The slim profile neck on a Les Paul is WAAYYYYYY better than the thicker one if you got short stubby fingers like me.
i'm not much for thin necks, even though i play quickly. Its justs really uncomfortable and hurts my hand bc it doesnt have any support

Weird, cuz it makes wrapping my hand all the way around pretty difficult and when I play the ibanez 7s I feel perfectly comfortable. Note that this isn't when sitting down, it's when standing up.
I think slim necks may be better for certain people, as I think it would be more comfortable for me as I have small hands.
I got bannana hands, so the thicker the better with me typically. My EBMM is pushing it a little in terms of thinness, but its still pretty comfortable. I'm all about fatback and 59' profile warmoth necks. I find that its true that I can play a bit faster on a thinner neck, but I can play a whole lot BETTER on a thick neck.
Both my 94' and 02' LPs are slim tapered necks. They are great for my size of the hand compared to the 57' RI, which is slightly thicker.
What i felt that the slim tapered necks are easier to bend/vibrate/shred/tap/sweep with smaller palm size like mine.
But the bigger picture is getting accustomed to the neck is most important.
At the end of the day, I can do the same things u/m on my 57' RI
I'm okay with slim necks to a certian point. I like everything from 'thick ass' LP necks(which, IMHO, aren't that 'thick ass' at all) to the jackson neck profile that comes on the sl3's and RR5's.
That being said, my favorite neck profile is that found on the Schecter C-1
models.
And you can sign me up to the quot;I ****ing hate Ibanez Wizard necks' club

I find that funny, because unless they changed the Schecter neck profile immensely since 2003, they are still pretty skinny necks. I think they might have beefed them up a little in 04, but not by much.
They're about the size of a standard double-cut guitar, slightly thinner than the strat neck but thicker than a MIJ jackson.

probably right
I'm into slim necks -- the slimmest being the Wizard 2 neck on my RG. My Epi LP has a fast 60's-type neck it's the best thing i've ever owned. My Am. Std. Strat plays well too. I'm not sure if you would consider that slim.
The best Fender guitar I've put my hands on as far as the neck is concerned, is a Highway 1 telecaster. The neck of that guitar is just AWESOME! I just hope Fender can make the switch a bit farther from the volume knob. I switch between bridge and neck a whole lot and it's hard to switch in a tele. Same thing with the Ibanez SZ.
