Pup for a Epi Les Paul Bass?
Ok here is the problem. My first bass was an Epi Les Paul Bass, and at the time that I got it I played the crap out of it. Since then I have moved on to better sounding amp; playing basses. I still have it because I new that I could never sell it for anything like what was given for it amp; I like to look at it. I still take it out look at it (It is for all of its other failings a very pretty bass) amp; play it, but it just doesn't sound good to me anymore. The factory pups amp; electronics are crap. Something that I find is common for guitarsamp; basses from the Far East. I would like to replace the pups, but the bass is routed just like a Les Paul guitar. That is, it is routed for amp; came with standard size humbuckers. The only company that I can find that makes a standard size replacement humbucker is EMG, amp; I just never liked the way EMG bass pups sounded. I bought a cheep Peavey pup from my guitar player not too long ago when the wax holding my bridge pup in that bass melted amp; the pup fell out of the bass. I was thinking about building a mount / ring amp; putting in a mini humbucker in the bridge, and leaving the cheep peavey guitar pup in the neck. If there are no other options I would like to have some custom shop pups made, but I don’t know how much that would cost or how to go about that. I just want to know if anyone has any suggestions at all on this.

THD Flexi 50 Owners...
I'm going to use one for the first time on a gig next weekend. It's a borrowed amp (it belongs to the sound room) and I'm not totally familiar with it. I'm using it with the stock EL-34s. I don't plan on changing any tubes, but I notice it sounds kinda bright. I'm going straight into an old 2x10 ported cabinet. I'm using a prototype distortion box.

What percentage of {My fave palyer's] sound is the pup?
I have read a lot of posts that are asking how do I get Vai/Van Halen/Page/Gibbons/etc/etc/etc's sound. I get the impression that people think a big chunck of it is the pup. I think that the specific pup is only about 10% of the equation. I think the style/chops/hands is about 50% plus, or more with certain people. If you have a pup even close to the range, you'll be close enough. FOr example...we all know early VH used a stock Gibson pup (remember that for everyone poo pooing the 498T!) SO what do you think...here's my take:
