A friend of mine who is very into Hendrix (and plays his songs with irritating accuracy) is getting an American standard strat. He wants more of a vintage Hendrix era tone than the stock pups. His current choice of replacements is Fender Custom Shop 69 Strat Pickups and I am just wondering about your opinions of them and any suggestion of alternatives. Im just worried that he is jumping to an expensive decision without considering other brands first as he has never played a guitar equipped with these yet.

So I mentioned a while back that my amp (Fender Princeton 65) was having this trouble popping and stuff... So I finally worked up the guts to open the back of it. Not knowing a whole lot about amps in general, especially SS ones, I have touched (almost) nothing inside, just looking for anything that looks like a short or bad connection. Unfortunately, I can't see anything. The fuse looks fine. The only things I touched in the amp were the insulated plug-in connections for the speaker, switch, etc. Why can't my amp be simpler so I can find the problem!!

Just been listening to Soulman's 'Classic Rock Solo' and it got me wondering what scale/s where used?

I am looking to replace my mim j-bass stock pickups and am trying to research my options. The antiquity series was suggested to me by a friend. I see that seymour duncan has a wide variety of pickups and I am not sure what way to go. I play mostly rock and soul. I use zero effects, just the tube gain on my ampeg to warm up the sound. I need a warm fat sound that cuts on all frequencies without being to high end-y or thin.

I was never happy of my fender us strat special floyd rose and i've been searching for ages for a good floyd equipped guitar and the best one i have ever played was a hamer chapparal custom. That and a jackson soloist (SL1???).........but the jackson costed 8 times more and didn't sound at all 8 times better.......infact i wasn't sure if it sounded better than the hamer chapparal i have tried. So finally after 6 years of search i have found one and i couldn't let her go..................the guitar is amazing........endless sustain (despite the floyd), fast and comfortable neck and in very good condition.......the only thing i am going to change are the pickups.......most probably with my tried and tested emg 85/sa/sa combination..... That's a sweet guitar, bro. I really like the color.

So a buddy of mine is letting me borrow his Gibson Les Paul gothic for about two weeks. #1 I think the all black and satin finish looks pretty silly but it actually starts to grow on you after a while. #2, this thing sounds really damn good. It has some major mojo. There are a lot of bad Gibsons but this actually a very well built, good sounding one. The stock pickups are really great and a lot better than I expected them to be. Does anyone know if they put a different size fret wire on this series? Because the neck is really comfortable to me. I hate low wide frets. Well anyway, I swore off Gibson guitars a long time ago. But I think if I can find a good one I might get a Les Paul again at some point. I'd offer to buy this one, but I know he won't sell it. As much beef as I have with Gibson, this is a pretty good guitar.

I just became so curious when I stopped by my local music store when I saw a 7-string set...10-56. Throw away the 10, you have a six-string set of 13-56!

Can someone please explain to me how EVH does those little trem releases after every other time through the rhythm chords? I can't seem to figure it out by ear. Is he depressing the bar to a certain pitch, then picking the note and raising back to pitch? I am talking about the part at the end of the chorus.

When you switch the power tube type of a fixed bias amp, what modifications do you have to do other than switching to adjustable bias and setting the bias? Is that all?
