A friend of mine who is very into Hendrix (and plays his songs with irritating accuracy) is getting an American standard strat. He wants more of a vintage Hendrix era tone than the stock pups. His current choice of replacements is Fender Custom Shop 69 Strat Pickups and I am just wondering about your opinions of them and any suggestion of alternatives. Im just worried that he is jumping to an expensive decision without considering other brands first as he has never played a guitar equipped with these yet.
I have not tried the CS 69's but have heard nothing but great reviews about them. Just so you know, those are not priced that high really. Another thing to keep inmind is that almost every replacement vintage style Single Coil pickup you find will be based on 50's or early 60's Strat pickups...not many people are looking for that late 60's tone so there are fewer pickups to choose from for that tone...
ok thanks. I think he said they were about $150 or less for the set
Surfers thoughout would be cool.

i liked the set of custom shop 69s i had a while ago......definately are very low output, and very clear sounding, with a deep piano bass type tone
Tell your friend you're about to bestow upon him the secret to the greatest strat tone of all. hahahaha
I helped Mike Gray of Chubtone come up with this pickup set, and it's the end of the road my friends! Notice that his description mentions me! LOL This set is the ultimate SRV/KWS/Mayer sound. He also makes reverse staggered 69's, which are Hendrix to a T. Whether he gets the 63/El Gordo or the 69's, he's gonna be in heaven when he plays his strat.

Tell him to change the trem to a vintage synchronized...........they are so much better than the Amer. ones IMO (I just prefer the vintage style, mostly for the feel I guess).
