The MESA's a cool amp and all but at the end of the day it's not entirely my thing. I liked it enough until I plugged my OCD into the clean channel and I found out i liked the OCD's gainy tones better than the amp's gainy tones! And if I'm only gonna have one good amp I better really love that thing... I'm starting to looking for a replacement.
I wrote up a thing on what I want... its kinda big to post here but if you wanna read it PM me and I'll send it to you. I also sent it to Jeff Seal for his direction but I'd like to know what you guys think.
Basically I want a high-gain british-sounding amp with a quot;saturatedquot; distortion/overdrive sound and good Fendery cleans. Thats the gist of it.
The obvious choice would be a used Bogner but those are a little too expensive for me right now. If that ends up being the only option then I guess I've got some saving to to. Listed above are my considerations... the Bogner is not there because thats the OBVIOUS choice. I will list an quot;otherquot; option though.
Let me know if you need more info to help me out or PM me and I'll send the quot;AmpQuestquot; paper to you.
Thanks for the help!

Koch studiotone... Does it all
Gotta go with the Modded Amp!! Jeff can Mod it to your personal liking.
I'd love to be the 1st Kid on my block w/t a Jeff Seal Modded Amp.
The Soldano Hot Rod is a great amp. If I did'nt have a SLO 100 already, I'd buy one.
with that description, you gotta go try a Rivera Fandango man, it sounds like exactly what you're looking for!!! they usually have the 55 in stores but it comes in a 100 too!!!

Two choices IMO. Jeff Seal or a Two Rock. That Two Rock we played in SB was a killer amp. It had nice saturated gain from what I remember, and the cleans were excellent. I especially liked the switches to mould the mids and lows.
However, I think you will have a better chance of getting exactly what YOU want by working with Jeff. He can taylor the sound to your liking, and can then go back and re-tweak it if you want some changes. I know he hasn't seen my amp for the last time. I think that dollar for dollar, and for sound quality, Jeff is your best bet.....unless you just fell in love with the Two Rock.

I don't know, just wanted to mention that Iquot;ve heard that from more than one guitarist

You have a point though, I don't know of all that many quot;britishquot; voiced amps (on the drive side) that have a Fender type clean channel. Of course the Bogner is one, but you already knew that . I don't know if it's really what you're looking for, but Splawn amps are similar to a hot-rodded Marshall.
I love my Hot Rod Plus. But....it didn't meet the specs you're stating until I had Voodoo Amps mod it for me. Now I've that nice Fenderesque chime on the clean channel, and the darkness was removed from the gain channel (I told I wanted more of the Marshall Plexi sound added to it).
I'm going to check out the Rivera Chubster today at lunch and will let you know what I think of it.
I suggest either getting the amp modified or consider Voodoo amps HEX, Witchdoctor, CP 100, EM100 Check the site or check videos of the amp...

I played the Rivera Chubster 40 during lunch today. I liked it so much that it's in the back of my car now! GREAT cleans, non-fizzy gain and tons of tone. Only drawback is no effects loop.

Nice score bro.
Doesn't the Rivera Knucklehead fit your description? Out of the ones you listed, I would pick the Decatone. Then again, I am a knob nerd. For you, I think the Jeff Seal modded amp would be awesome.
i'd go with the jeff seal modded amp

Rivera is the only company I know from personal time with their amps that can do Marshall and Fender in one box and do it very well *with* EL34's, no less.
Two Rocks are just insane on the cleans and very dumble on the OD. Dumble is not Marshall. But is sweet nonetheless.
Hey Brendan, if you wanna take a drive east, you can check out my Brit voiced Traynor. They're under $650 new.
I've owned a Soldano Decatone and I've owned a Rivera. I kept the Rivera.
IMO it depends on which is more important to you: saturated lead tone or Fendery cleans. The Deca has the saturation thing in spades but the cleans are just okay. Rivera's cleans are excellent but the lead tones don't get quite as saturated as Soldano's. On the bright side, the distortion channel is less compressed (in a good way) than on the Soldano.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong...
When I read that descrition of what you want out of an amp ,b2d, a rivera knucklehead reverb comes to mind for some reason.
o and you have a PM.
high powered marshalls can achieve an excellent clean tone, like the plexi. It's different from your typical fender cleans, but it's excellent nonetheless.
My bet would be to go with a marshall voiced amp that has plenty of power and reverb.
Thanks for the advice guys.
When I say quot;saturatedquot; I'm talking about the type of distortion that seems to have lots of sustain, that quot;liquidyquot; feel of compression that seems to make playing easier, and a lot of harmonic sensitivity where sounds just seem to quot;pop outquot; of the amp and guitar. The lows should be tight and thick, the mids clear, articulate and singing, and smooth highs with enough cut to provide good definition.
As far as the cleans go, as long as they're not sterile and cold they'll be fine. I've tried the JSX and the Boogie Stiletto (both EL34-based amps) and they get some really nice clean tones that are very dynamic and elasticy-feeling with a cool syrupy twang on top.
I'll write down the quot;otherquot; suggestions you guys gave me and do some research. Keep the advice coming!
