I plugged my Valvetronix 120 watt head into my Stereo Marshall V30 4x12...tonight.
Now the British tones, especially the Marshall tones, are beefy and the mids are right..The BF 2x12 tones still sound really good, except the tones only project foward and without the spaciousness the open back cab provides, but the tone is clean, tight, and headroomy...LOL The JCM 800 and 900 tones are very convincing through this cabinet..I didn't get a chance to mess with the quot;Plexiquot; setting because it got late, but I'll do that tomorrow..

The Vox AC30 tones need the open back cabinet, but the head does sound alot better through the 4x12...

Getting plenty of mids and lows is no problem now with this head..I see the actual matching Vox 2x12 closed back cab in my future once I pay the amp off...

Just wanted to pass this info onto any prospective Valvetronix 60VTH or 120 VTH buyers..

I agree about your assessment of the higher gain models vs. the clean models, using a 4-12, as opposed to the open back.
I've got mine on a Marshall silver Jubilee 4-12 with 2 Vin 30's on top and 2 G-75T's on the bottom. I mostly use it for practicing with gainy settings. When I want to play clean, the models sound really good, but I usually just plug into another amp like the Matchless. Those are the two amps I keep at home, so it's hard not to do it that way.

I'm glad that it's still working out John, my amp is somewhere in OH according to Fedex, should be here by Thursday. Whoo hoo!!!!

It is down to the Vox and the Duoverb for me. I need to fly with the amp and I don't really need effects so the Duoverb has the edge at the moment but good to hear. I'll need to use it through a variety of cabs too.

Have you tried open cab emulation through a closed back cab, does it make a difference or just throw things out of whack?

Your double amp setup is awesome, but I can't do that when I gig out...???
I need 1 2x12 cabinet that would be almost perfect for the cleans and the gain tones...I'll have to bring my head into Sam Ash one of these days and see how the Vox 2x12 cab does...

I own two BF amps(A 66 Pro Reverb and a 67 deluxe reverb) Lately I still prefer the versatility of the Cyber Twin or this new Vox...it's just a matter of getting the right cab now for the Vox,but the tones are in this amp in spades!

My avatar picture is me playing through my BF Pro Reverb amp...I Like keeping these with me at home these days to cherish! LOL

My new head doesn't have any cabinet emulation...
