I found this article very interesting. His fave pups are Custom Customs and things like how he switches amps to go from rhythm to lead. Thought others might enjoy.

Good article. Very interesting. Although isn't that place Music Toys he talks about the store that everyone seems to have problems with??

rofl

he is getting his own signature pickup for BKP as we speak. its called the rebel yell. and ben (TO) has played it on wednesday already.
its a screamer!but that midi sequencing is a pretty damn good idea.. just play like you'd play plugged into a single channel amp with no effects and it changes everything on the fly, without you doing anything

a BIG bummer if the system malfunctions though

So Steve is working with the Bare Knuckle guys now? No more Custom Custom??

well, cant say that he wont ever use the CC anymore, just that he is using an early version of the rebell yell on tour ATM (along with other BKP pups) and that it will be released around the end of the year

He's playing Nailbombs in this pic for instance.
BKP nailbombs , holy diver , cold sweat , ect until the rebal yell is ready and if you notice he isn't listed on the seymour duncan pickup list under custom, custom or JB like he used too .

his interview in the latest GW was pretty cool too. coincidentally, me and my friends are listening to a ton of billy idol these days

That's a cool piece! Probably the funniest thing though is seeing Brian Tichy's name in there...I went to high school with his younger brother Mike!!!Anywhooo, ya'll should check out Brian's band quot;Ballquot; which rwaks!

Dig it.

hmmm that guy sf---in great!

I love Billy Idol! I wonder why he chooses the Custom Custom. I always fear a pickup that lacks lows.

I like his taste in going to gold hardware on a black LP Std. If I couldn't get a hold of a black Custom, that's what I'd do...

I've always been a fan of Steve Steven's playing.

Love Rebel Yell, Billy idol was/is a great foil. I remember hearing somewhere that he amp; EVH had a discussion and a comment was made about what he was doing with a clown like Vince Neil .

I think he's only using the CC because it really shines through his current (5150) amp. I know I can understand that he doesn't care for the JB/5150 combo.

Intersting he's got an endorsement deal with BK, I wonder if Duncan also offered him a sig p/up? Logistics or money probably made it a little easier to go with BK.

Steve Stevens is AMAZING!

If you have AOL, there are some live SESSIONS@AOL concerts with Billy Idol!

I love his tone! Go to Steve's personal site and you can see his many amps and guitars! What a talented player and writer! Pure rock n' roll tone, attitude, looks, and chops!

Years ago, when I really was not an electric player, I tried a Hamer Steve Stevens model axe. It had a scar on the bottom edge (unseen for the most part), so they were trying to get rid of it. Sadly, I was a poor college student, and I did not have $700. It would have been worth it. Awesome axe.

You know, I was never really a die hard Idol fan, I had his Rebel Yell CD and liked alot of his songs but one day a couple of years ago I was in Circuit City and they had the VH1 Storytellers DVD playing and it really caught my ear so I bought it and Stevens' has the most amazing tone during that show. I read he owned 7 or 7 Plexi's so I assume he was playing through one? The acoustic versions he and Billy do also sound great. I really gained alot of respect for Steve Stevens' as a player from this DVD.

I have that DVD - I will go check it again tonite! He does use plexis and modded 5150s. He has great feel and chops. You gotta love the sex in Idol's style!

One of the deal points with being a artist is that it's an exclusive endorsement. That means that the artist can not endorse any other pickup company.

Mr. Stevens called to inform us that he was getting a signature pickup with another pickup company. He realized that he would no longer be a endorser but made the decision based on his own free will. It was around that time that we removed him from our artist list. As a true gentleman, he called us beforehand, so we would learn about it from him rather than reading about it somewhere in a magazine or a web forum.

He also said that he has used pickups for many years and plans to continue using them -- though no longer as an officially endorsed artist.

It happens. It happened with us before in the '90s with Tony Iommi and Allan Holdsworth. It's part of doing business. But I commend Steve on being upfront about it. That's the way business should be conducted. And I wish him luck with his new pickup company.

true. if one changes endersements, one should be straightforward about it, not change and leave the company in the dark, and then they learn it from somewhere else. talk about a stab in the back...

and leavin like that doesnt leave a person in good light with the company.

That was nice, Evan. Thanks for the information.

Although, I did notice in the new pickup catalogue which I got from UK UGD that he is mentioned as being a user on the Custom Custom page.

I thought it was strange when I saw it, as I knew that he was going ahead with his signature pickup.
