I know this idea has been done to death, but isn't everyone jonesing for a higher-output-vintage pickup like me?

We need a classic humbucker, wound to about 10.5-11K. Keep the top end of the 59, and bump up the bass as well as the mids. and keep it smooth.

Possible names. The Hot 59. The 59 Plus. The Fat 59. The 60.

I know this topic has already been done, but man, I'd buy this pickup in a second. I know they describe the Custom5 as a beefed up 59, but I think a pickup in between these two would be awesome. The more variety, the better.

I'd buy a matched set in a heartbeat....59 with more mids while retaining clarity.. and wound anywhere from 9.5 to 11 K.

Yes! 9.5K-10K '59 please!!!!!

There's not much of a difference between 8.5k (about what the current 59 is) and 9.5k. Around the 11k-12k range would be great. More of a medium output, but still with vintage clarity.

I'd say leave the lows and mids alone and just make a hotter '59. The '59 is a great pickup, I just want one that's a little hotter. I've been looking at other manufacturers for just such a pickup only because Duncan doesn't offer anything like it. I hate DiMarzio, but people hgave been talking a lot about their vintage hot (I think that's what it's called).

The Customs are good in theory, but are just too hot (IMO).

The Screamin' Demon looks to be the closest at 10.00k. It's a cool pickup but maybe bot what you're after.

ErikH,

The 11K range falls right in between some of the Customs and the 59...so that just might be perfect. That would fill the gap for Duncan's offerings quite nicely, I think.

That overwind to 9.5 or whatever would add the little bit of mids I need....just needs a smidge more...would also pull some of the brightness off the top....perfect then, IMO.

Yup, I think we all agree Duncan needs an overwind somewhere in between the Custom series and the stock '59...Make it so Seymour! ; )

The heat is about right, but I think (the folks in this thread) want to maintain the 59's voice. Like you said, the Demon ain't no '59.

I don't know if any of you knew this or really paid attention, but the Little '59 is between 11k - 12k. I have this in my Strat and absolutely love it. Granted, it's got a ceramic magnet where the full-size 59 Model has an Alnico V but it's got that great vintage vibe to it and sounds so sweet. Just a very small amount of compression but yet it's still open.

Since the Little '59 is single-coil sized, start with it as a base for a full-sized overwound 59.

Nah, we (or I) want the full size real deal. Seriously, just overwind the '59 between it's stock specs and the Custom...That would be ideal.

For what it is worth I have been using an ealry 80 Seymourized humbucker named a SeymourizerII in the 12.36Kohm range and it has been the best pickup I have heard bar none. It has great tight lowend not boomy like the C-5 great enhanced mids and highs for and edgier tone which I like. The best thing I like about it is it' output it is just right without being over the top like the JB is especially if you use a high gain amp where you don't need to drive the front end much.

One of the guys in the custom shop I e-mailed said these became the SH-6N neck model listed at 12.7kohms , I use mine in the bridge position and have loved it for years. You could always change the magnet to and A-5 or A-2 and try it but I like the edgieness of the ceramic which I assume is in mine.

I always thought the Screamin Demon at 10.5Kohm just didn't have enough output for me, and JB a bit much at almost 16 to 17kohms. The 11 to 13kohm range is perfect if your a heavy handed player like myself where you dig into the strings hard.

Cheers hope this helps your dilema some.

Its called the S-Deco5 and has been available from the custom shop for some time now. I have a 10k S-Deco 2 which is pretty damn cool in own right.

That's why I said to start with it as a base for a full-sized overwound 59. I want it full-sized too.

I asked this in another thread but it seem more appropriate here. How about a hybrid that'll fall in this category?

Would a CC/59 hybrid fit the bill? With all the magnet swaps that can be done one of the alnico flavors may just get it there, or pretty darn close.

Maybe there are reasons Seymour doesn't make more pickups in this range (I think the Blues Trembucker is 9.8 also). Maybe he doesn't want to get sued by DiMarzio! Or maybe he is not a big fan of them.

It is pretty clear that they listen here (C-5 anyone?). Maybe something is in the works and Evan can chime in. Maybe we can keep this thread alive long enough for Evan to reply...

We want a standard offering (and standard pricing)...

ErikH, I've got a couple CC/59 hybrids in the works that I think/hope will fit the bill perfectly. I won't have the guitars complete for a couple months though. It would be great if Duncan could make these, but I guess DiMarzio has some kind of copyright on mismatched coils.

DiMarzio patented the concept of winding the two coils with an equal number of turns, but with different sizes of wire. So you get symmetric output (and hence, hum-cancelling), but two different resonances. Pretty slick idea, I think.

Mismatching these days usually means different numbers of turns. Anyone can (and does - Fralin, Gibson, et al) do that.

I was thinking that. That is a KILLER pickup, easily my favorite SD. They should just offer a regular SH/TB version of it.
