I am looking to replace my mim j-bass stock pickups and am trying to research my options. The antiquity series was suggested to me by a friend. I see that seymour duncan has a wide variety of pickups and I am not sure what way to go. I play mostly rock and soul. I use zero effects, just the tube gain on my ampeg to warm up the sound. I need a warm fat sound that cuts on all frequencies without being to high end-y or thin.
I dont know if what I am saying makes sense, but I could use some feedback.
Thanks
You can't go wrong with the Antiquitys. I have never heard a set of Ants that wasn't great if it's vintage tone and vibe you are after.
If you wanted to save a few bucks and still get great tone, then the Duncan Vintage Jazz Bass set would be the ticket. If you wanted a little stronger output and perhaps a more aggressive and more modern tone then the Quarter Pound Jazz Bass set would be cool.
I have not heard the Jazz Bass Hot set.
Sounds to me like either the Vintage or Antiquity set is what you're probably after.

Both the Antiquity and Vintage sets are based on the original early 60's Fender design. The Ants are handwound by either MJ or Seymour himself. Typically, the Ants have a little more complexity and vibe than the stock Duncan sets. But the stock Duncan sets are wonderful too!

when you say more modern tone, what do you mean?

The players who have purchased the QP's and who have given me feedback on them say they are brighter, more powerful and have more prescence than the Vintage model. For my money, Jaco got just about the finest Jazz Bass tone I've ever heard and the pickups that would come closest to that tone would be the Ants or Vintage, IMO. Lew
