PRS SE Soapbar II P90's. Weak??
Tried out the mentioned guitar today. This is my first time trying a P90 equipt guitar and frankly I'm a bit puzzled. I plugged a Les Paul into an amp so I could make somewhat of a comparison. Plugged in the PRS and I could'nt believe how weak the output was. Grabbed another of the same model and got the same result. To be as specific as I can the pickups sounded like they were wired out of phase. They were that weak. I was told that P90's sound like a fat single coil, like the punch of a humbucker with a single coils clarity. Uh, not this one. Clear, yes, but fat? Not even close. I plugged the Les Paul back in and almost fell over due to the volume differance. Again, not knowing P90's is it possible that these guitars were wired wrong?

Vox ValveTronix Preset Tweaks Again
Tonight I was playing through my Valvetronix head at the lower 1 watt and 15 watt settings through my Cyber Twin's 2x12 cabinet...I used the 1x12 Fender Tweed 12 setting with the Top Boost in...Got a great ZZ Top quot;La Grangequot; crunch with my strat....I then added a bit of spring reverb and a very slight of delay just to give the tone a sense of space...Got great tone and with the ability to easily sustain notes....The 15 watt setting was great..The 1 watt setting is cool because it lowers the volume, but the gain and compression stays the same, but at a bedroom volume...

Wiring Question
This is out of curiousity because soon I might be wiring my own pickups.... I have everything worked out except for one thing. On the 3 way switch in my guitar there are like 15 different tiny terminals for soldering.... how do you know which ones to use? Sorry guys, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to wiring...

Is Engl considered high-end??
I am curious, is Engl considered high-end gear or is it the German equivalent of Crate or Line 6? I guess it wouldn't be considered boutique like Diezel or Bogner right? Don't get me wrong, Engl is going to be next amp purchase. I love the Screamer 50. I need to decide between the head or the combo. I just don't have a good feel for stuff not made in America. I am thinking that Engl is kind of like the German Mesa-Boogie. Good quality, solid as a rock, but not quite to the level (or price) of Matchless, etc...

replacement speakers
I have a 4/10 speaker combo amp. I love the sound of celestion vintage 30's. my 4/10 combo is loaded with 4 jensons. what 10 inch replacement speakers would get me closer to that celestion vintage 30 tone or would it be wiser to put in 2/10 vintage 30 clones and 2/10 realy nice clean sounding speakers-mix and match-
any of you guys that know 10 inch speakers have any ideas out there?

Wet Dog Blanket Tone (Butch, look inside)
I went to hear a buddy of mine and his country band tonight. They were hitting all the current top 40 country stuff, some Skynrd, some ZZ, some Tucker, some old classic country. Nice mix. Lot's of steel guitar. He had the best tone. THe quot;leadquot; player had a Tele going through a DRRI amp, stock everything. His tone was pretty damn good compared to the vocalist/guitarist whose Tele into a Fender Hot Rod 2x12 sounded like it had a stinky old wet dog blanket over it. I know the guy, I used to play in this group. I went up during a break and told him to give the treble a little boost. He said, his audiences always complained about too much high end. I told him, brother, you ain't go no high end at all. It's a muddy stinky mess. But, he knows everything, so I was tortured with another full set.

Loose Coil Winding
A brand new Texas Special Custom Shop pick up arrived with me yesterday. I couldn't help notice that there is a loose coil wind that was lightly waxed to the top of the bobbin, as if to secure it and stop it flying loose from the main coil. It doesn't appear to be broken, it comes out of the coil, loops out and then goes back into the coil. However, I don't want to f**k with it and examine it too closely as I know how fragile pickup winding wire is.

The usual pickup suggestion thread
I recently bought a OLP Axis MM1 and need a bridge pickup change. The guitar is in drop C and I need a pickup that retains clarity in this tuning. I was thinking of getting the DMZ drop sonic. The pickup must be able to handle alot of gain and have a nice tone for heavy rhythm.
Thanks in advance.

Need your advice: pickups for mahogany
Just bought an old USA Hamer Chaparral (mahogany, no maple top, S/S/H) the guitar is amazing, but I really don#8217;t like active EMG pickups. I am going to replace them with s. But#8230; what model to choose?
I love Eklundh sound (Caparison Apple Horn - Caparison SH-27F in neck Caparison PH-R in bridge). A friend said Little '59 in neck and JB TB-4 in bridge would be a good choice. What do you think?
