I recently bought a OLP Axis MM1 and need a bridge pickup change. The guitar is in drop C and I need a pickup that retains clarity in this tuning. I was thinking of getting the DMZ drop sonic. The pickup must be able to handle alot of gain and have a nice tone for heavy rhythm.
Thanks in advance.
From your description, it sounds like the JB might do the trick. But don't take my word for it, someone else will have a better answer I'm sure.
If you play metal, get the EVOLUTION bridge. Trust me. I tune my Reed to dropped C, and the rhythm tones deliver. Great in a band setting, solo's cut through and the rhythm tone has more quot;chugquot; than quot;thumpquot;. Very clear and articulate when soloing and the harmonics scream. even if you try doing some low-E string ala Zakk Wylde/Killswitch Engage harmonics, its great.
The Dimebucker and the Duncan Distortion are also awesome for dropped tunings. The JB is also great, but sounded a bit floppy for rhythm for my taste, expecially with the music that i play. i play death metal and metalcore. the Custom sounded too bassy for me.
The other guitarist in my band has an EMG 81/89 combo (which also rock!) in his Jackson Rhoads and in his Jackson Warrior. I had the JB/Jazz combo in my Reed before and he used to tease me a lot back then because my guitar sounded quot;twangyquot;. lol! but after putting the Evo's in, he actually said that my guitar never sounded better... after plugging it into his Peavey Triple XXX. Even our drummer said that my guitar sounded great.
