So I get this Laney Pro Tube head from some jackass on eBay, and when I first turn it on, no sound comes out. Looking at the power tubes, I saw that one of the two EL34s was not glowing (it was a mismatched pair so I was already suspicious). So I went out and bought a brand new pair of GT EL34s. The amp made sound at this point, but not too loud. By quot;not too loud, quot; I mean not even bedroom volume when both pre-amp and master volumes are at full. I thought maybe it was the preamp tubes, so I went out and bought 4 new Sovtek 12AX7WAs (cheapest I could find, I just wanted something that works). Low and behold, it was still bedroom volume at max.

What to do? (problems with a purchase)
I was in NY for a few days ago, and I purchased a guitar plus a few effect pedals. I wrote a list of the pedals I wanted, and set a limit on 1400$ for the whole package with the guitar. The salesman seemed to meet my demand, but there was one quot;howeverquot;. One of the pedals were not available in that particular store, but he got in contact with another store to get the pedal shipped near where I'm living.
But when I look at the receipt, it seems like the pedal was not included in the price I thought we agreed on. Now, having received an email from him, he explains the fm-4 will be on a seperate receipt. That started confusing me, as I thought we had agreed on a total price of under 1400$ for _everything_. However, I have to admit he _may_ be right when he says he mentioned the seperate receipt, and it may be I have not caught that part of the deal, as things were going _really_ fast during that purchase (no, I'm not an english native speaker).

C-5 with a 300k volume pot!!!!!
Holy Cow! This is an amazing combination! I tried this and was blown away in my lP Standard. I love the stock Burstbucker Pros pickups but wanted something a touch fatter and hotter in the bridge while retaining a big, open sound with a vintage twist. It had to also retain the aggression the Burstbucker Pro bridge can dish out. I think this is it. I had tried the C-5 in the past with 500k volume pot in an LP and didn't like it because it seemd to thin out the tone a bit or take away some of the creaminess. The 300k seems to put the creaminess back while decreasing some of the upper mids. The low mids are nice and fat. I was afraid of going back to a medium-hot pickup for fear of losing that big, fat sweet tone of a PAF but somehow the C-5 retains that character.

Pickup advice needed (fat strat)
I have a Fender am. deluxe ash strat with maple neck and the Fender deluxe trem. Though i LOVE the guitar and it's beautifull green transparent finish but i really don't like the stock Fender vintage noiseless pickups. They sound very compressed and lifeless to me. Nothing vintage really. So i'm looking for some new pickups and i'm definatly going for a HSS setup. I would like to get that Peppers quot;under the bridgequot; and 70's Gilmourish lead tone out of the neck/middle single coils and be able to shred like Satriani on my bridge bucker. For the single coils i am considering Fender Texas specials but i'm afraid they are maybe a bit TOO hot for a good clean quot;bellquot; like picking sound. I prefer true single coils with the original stratquot;quackquot; over stacked humbuckers. For the bridge humbucker i was looking at a diMarzio PAFpro (best bridge humbucker i ever owned in my opinion), or Duncan either custom5, Pearlygates or Pearlygates . Something that would give me a nice dark fat growl on high gain without overpowering the single coils TOO much. (A SLIGHT volume boost is actually kinda cool)

What pickup would this be?
A '59 with less bass, more mids, same output, and less glassy highs. What neck pickup would this be closest to?

JB not enough power
Hi, my question is about pickups. I currently have a Hotrails in my Strat bridge and I’m looking for something comparable to put in the bridge of my Les Paul. I currently have the Duncan JB in the bridge and it’s not hot enough. I don’t want a full metal sound but wont something I can crunch with and rip pinch harmonics. Am looking at the Duncan Distortion but not sure if that will work. Thanks
John

how to make a pickup rwrp?
A mate wants me to fix the hum problem he has on his bass (2 single coil pickups) and I was thinking maybe I could make one of the pickups rwrp. Is this simply a matter of flipping the pickup around or do I have to flip the magnet inside?

WTB Hot Rail NO LIP!
Looking for a neck Hot Rails in black without the lip. I'm afraid I might have to go new for one of these, or settle for the Cool Rails. But I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

How do I squelch the quot;lowquot; feedback
I used the SEARCH button. The Iommi pickup in my Epi LP is great for high frequency feedback supression, but last night I found out that I can get a low frequency feedback (in the upper frequency range of an electric bass).

FS: Hamer Sunburst Quilttop
This is a near mint Hamer Sunburst Quilttop. Bought about two months ago. This si sort of the Chinese knock off of the Hamer Studio USA. With a little more bells and whistles visually speaking. Body is quilt maple over mahagony. Binding is cream and albalone over the entire guitar. It is spectacular looking, yet once you take a close look at it, you see some minor flaws (from average workmanship). However, the neck is nice and flat and it plays really well. I'm not used to thinner neck like these, yet access to the higher frets is a heck of a lot easier than with a Les Paul type.
