I was in NY for a few days ago, and I purchased a guitar plus a few effect pedals. I wrote a list of the pedals I wanted, and set a limit on 1400$ for the whole package with the guitar. The salesman seemed to meet my demand, but there was one quot;howeverquot;. One of the pedals were not available in that particular store, but he got in contact with another store to get the pedal shipped near where I'm living.
But when I look at the receipt, it seems like the pedal was not included in the price I thought we agreed on. Now, having received an email from him, he explains the fm-4 will be on a seperate receipt. That started confusing me, as I thought we had agreed on a total price of under 1400$ for _everything_. However, I have to admit he _may_ be right when he says he mentioned the seperate receipt, and it may be I have not caught that part of the deal, as things were going _really_ fast during that purchase (no, I'm not an english native speaker).
Also, I am a bit unsure when it comes to the taxes. The guitar I purchased cost 630$ (sale price both in the actual store, and on musiciansfriend.com). However, the guitar and the other pedals were put on a 8,375% tax. Is it right to put a tax on this? What about tax when musiciansfriend sells a guitar for 630$ ?
I know it is a little difficult to give advise on such things, but does anyone have a suggestion of what I should do ?
I wish I could turn the clock backwards a few days to do this right.
If a store has a “bricks and mortar” location in the state you make your purchase, you have to pay sales tax for that state. Doesn’t matter if you buy it online or in an actual store.
If you purchase from an online store that don’t have a physical location in your home state, you don’t have to pay sales tax. (However you are ‘suppose’ to report the purchase to your home state for tax purposes…)
I'm assuming you don't live in the US. At customs I believe you should be able to get your taxes back using your receipts and such.

Yah, but that implies I have to pay the tax regulated from my own country, which is a LOT more than the US tax, so I leave that alone...
More advises..? If not, this thread can finally sink. I will decide what to do soon now, so...
Keep in mind that shipping costs from an online retailer can often be as much as the tax from the local store.
If you bought from a Guitar Center, you have 30 days to return everything. Most other big chains have similar policies.
It sounds like you're only a bit short on the cost of one pedal, it doens't sound like you did too badly.
When you add up the two receipts, do they equal 1400? If so, having a 2nd receipt is not a problem. it does not sound like you got taken advantage of from what you're written so far.
What were the pedals, BTW?
Depending on what you got, it probably was a good deal. Also, let this be a lesson to ANYONE dealing with a fast-talking salesman: Make him slow down. (I am NOT saying this is what happened in this case) If the deal is made with strings attached, or you are pressured to make an immediate decision, then the answer is, quot; No. I'll pass this time.quot; NEVER let the salesman control your purchases. He should be helping you by guiding you towards what YOU want.
When the recipts are added, they equals 1353$.. So the salesman is probaby right, but it annoys me a bit, as I asked if I got the whole package for under 1400$, and he confirmed yes... But he might have misunderstood or something.
Hm, I purchased a Lite Ash Strat, DD-20, OD-20 and two TU-2 (one for a friend of mine). And I don't think it was a good deal (but i thought so when I believed the FM-4 was included), because there is no discount on the strat, I could have get a better price on the DD-20 (if I refered to americanmusical.com), and the TU-2's were at regular salesprice. The OD-20 was down at best prices on the internet, but that was the least I would expect.
And to LesStrat; I second your conclusion, make fast-talking salesmen slow down!
