Here it is. I used small diameter aluminum and brass tubing to make a ring around the mother of pearl and abalone inlays. The alumnum looks like silver and the brass looks like a gold ring. Its a very cool accent to give your neck a bit more quot;blingquot; I wish my camera was a little better to show the details a bit better but, I am highly impressed how it turned out.Thank you JJ!!!
BTW, the inlays that you cant really see are the mother of pearl. They dont react well to a camera flash. Pictures just dosent do this justice.
you know what may look cool as a kind of simple/slick inlay...
ebony board with a black dot inlay or ebony with a silver ring around it so all you see for the most part is the silver ring and not a full circle!very nice work thoug, looks sweet!

Not a bad option at all. I am going to store that nuggett of info in my head!!!
Very Cool !! I know what my next project is gonna be! So let's see if
I understand this... get a piece of tubing with the right Inside diameter,
Polish one end, Cut it, insert inlay, drill propper OD in fretboard, epoxy
it in and then level? Anything I'm missing?

Here is what the deal is. Get 9/32 tubing, .25 inch dots, 9/32 brad point bit and go to town. The inside diameter of the 9/32 tubing is .25 so the dots will fit perfectly. Drill your inlay holes to about .050-.060. Take you dremal cut off wheel and cut a little of the tubing off, put the dot into the piece of tubing, put a dab of glue into the hole in the board, insert tubing/dot into inlay hole of board, and after the glue dries, take your radius block with sandpaper on it and go to town. after that, I went up to higher grits of paper and steel wool to get a little more shine out of it. Clean and oil the board and your done!!
Thanks ! Dave amp; JohnJohn Now if i can just find a pen that writes?
I'll have to write this stuff down.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the same problem in my shop most of the time!!!
I have to usually end up grabbing my mechanical pencil off the bench to write stuff down.
Then I loose that!!!!
Looks great Dave-you're hired.
Actually I have to share the credit for this trick with Jeff_H,his input gave me the direction for this. When I was redoing his neck he wanted simple but something a little different. So I geuss you could say that Jeff's Yamaha neck was the prototype,(a fancy way of saying Guinea Pig),for this.

I actually thought of something similar looking JUST after placing the order for my latest project , though instead of using a ring of tubing with a dark inlay in the center I was thinking having just an abalone or MOP ring instead of a dot.

I resemble that guinee pig remark. I'll bring that neck up this next weekend Dave so you can see it in the flesh. I think it's really cool.
