I'm thinking about getting a 30-inch scale baritone guitar, and was wondering what pickups to get for it. I'm pretty sure an Invader would be most appropriate, and I'll probably get one for it. But, what pickup would you suggest to go along with the Invader, which positions would you put both pickups, and why would you choose that combo? Also, any suggestions that don't include the Invader are welcome and will be taken into serious consideration if enough reason is there. The instrument is made of basswood and has a bolt-on maple neck with rosewood board, if this information is important to your suggestion. Thanks for all contributions in advance.

Oh ya, forgot to mention, if I do decide to get it, it will be used as a short scale bass, not a guitar.

I'd go with a Jazz/59 combo. I know it seems like it'll be really low output, but that contributes to clarity, which, IMHO, is something very desireable in a baritone. This set will keep your lows tight and your top end bright and spanky.

I think that the Invader and mostother high output pickups would just mush out and sound flabby and muddy.

Jazz bridge/'59 neck?

What about the JB model? A5 magnet, mixes well with both the Jazz and '59, too. Just curious. I know it's a high output pup, but it is very clean.

no, Jazz neck and 59 bridge. I think the JB might be OK, but I'm afraid that the low end might not be tight enough.

Alright. Thanks for the suggestion.

Agreed. I have a baritone with a JB in the bridge, and it's total mush. It's almost like having a multiband compressor - the low strings squish and get all compressed, while the higher notes ring through. not nice. I have a 59 in the neck, and that's much better, but I'm planning to switch in a Jazz at the neck. I might try the 59 in the bridge, I dunno...

Anyone else have suggestions for a baritone?

Cheers
