I'm ordering a Schecter 006 Elite from GC this weekend (they have to special order it, i have to put the full price down before they order it). I think the list is like 550. Will I be able to talk them down? I'd order it online but I can't find anywhere that has them without a huge wait.

Paying in cash helps you knock some dollars off. But be aggressive in your negotiations. Really pretend to be really digging a much less exspensive ax or etc...

1. Those guys are pushovers if ya push em hard enough.

If you can buy it cheaper elsewhere tell the salesman at GC and they should sell it to you for that price. It used to be their policy. I've done it there a couple of times.

Actually, this isn't true. They like credit cards better, because there's a ton less paperwork to do.

Just ask for a deal and be persistend, they'll eventually give in.

I got my old C-1 Classic for 750 OUT THE DOOR in a hardshell case with a 40 dollar leather strap and straplocks. The guitar retails there for 699.

Friend of mine got a Music Man Stingray from GC in LA, shelf price was $1,150 or so, and he paid $900 for it.

I got a guy to sell me a pair of seth lovers for 130 plus tax new (I think that's a good deal). Just make sure to work on your pokerface, or turn around before you laugh at them.

i got my ovation 12 string for $725 with case, the regular price is $850 without case (so in theory i got about $200 off)

everything's negotiable!

I've never paid full price for any large purchase at GC, but then again, I've never special ordered. At the very least you ought to be able to get out of there with a free hard case.

That's a load of crap. Negotiate the price, pay for it and wait for it to arrive. If they get you to pay full price before they order it, they got ya where they want ya. If you can swing a deal and order it, get a hard date on the deal as to when it will be ordered and the estimated wait time. Then stay on top of them. They tend to sit on orders sometimes.

I special ordered my Strat from them and I was able to haggle on the price and knock some money off. They even played the used car quot;I need to talk to my managerquot; game with me.

I did have to wait quite a few months for it to arrive though. And that was through no fault of GC, instead I was at the mercy of Fender's production schedule. I think the only way they could special order anything and guarantee an arrival quicker than anyone else is if they already have the guitar either sitting in a warehouse someplace or at another store.

I've always been able to get deals on whatever I buy at Guitar Center. But I've never special ordered anything. Usually helps if they have it sitting around because then there's the incentive to move it.

I always tell em I want it for X or I am outta here....
A lot of their check depends on how many guitars they sell, most people just go in and pay so if you push it they know there is enuf room

Never really been a problem, it's kinda fun to me

What about the prices for small stuff like a pedal or other kind of accessories are those negotiable?

I've not worked there so I can't say for definite.. but

I bet they have a set minimum price they can go to on each item. It'll be on their computer systems or whatever, but somewhere they will have guidelines as to how low they can go. They're not gonna sell you something at a loss.. but if they get known for being haggled to a good price it'll help their business.

Interesting... quite a few of those that have posted here are the same people that quot;donamp;#180;t buy at GCquot;...

i am sure there is a low price yes, a price where it is like ok we cant go below this no matter what.

i have purchased pedals there and gotten them for cheaper, you just gotta ask, again i enjoy that part of it as well....

have in mind what u want to pay and say what is the best i can get this for out the door, the thing is just be tough about it, but just asking usually helps, hell the worst they have ever done for me was knock of tax, and i aint special, i just ask

Something else too, the more frequently you spend there, the more likely you are to get a good deal, a very good deal. Just remind them that you pour out lots of money there and they'll give you a break. Used to do that all the time when I purchased gear more often.

The guitar center near me in West Covina CA let me negotiate the heck out of them... They even honor coupons I've brought in from Sam Ash... Thats how I got my SG standard new for 20% off. I only paid $840 and I really lucked out becuz that was one pristine guitar. The salesguy was putting new stock on the floor when I saw the Gibson box and I asked quot;hey, whats in the Gibson box?quot; It just happened to be an SG - exactly what I was looking for. It wasn't even opened yet. Virgin. Checked it out, played it, and took it home. Box styrofoam, case, everything...

Anyways, make friends with one of the clerks, and go in every once in a while to say HI. They guys there recognize me now and always treat me good, (not like crap they do to new customers) and they know I spend $$$ so they give me a good discount on just about everyhting I buy even pedals and accessories etc. Sometimes if I spend big $$$ they throw in strings or a strap or whatever...

The only special order item I purchased from them was a foot controller for my Vox AD15VT. They said they couldn't give me a discount on a special order item, but I had printed a page from a website that was selling it for considerably less. They had no choice but to match the price...

I can honestly say, all of my gear below was purchased with some kind of discount or on sale. I've never paid full price...

hope that helps...
