Hi,
I have found my way around some of the tools so I hope I'll understand
your replies!

Here is what I want from my first ever task.
I want to input text only into cells A1 through to D1. This is purely
information I need for a project.
Then when I enter an X into E1 (signaling the project as closed) I want
all cells from A1 to E1 to grey out.
I have been told this is conditional formatting but I don't know how to
get this result.

Highlight A1-D1

Format|Conditional Formatting
In the Conditions box click the drop down showing 'Cell Value is' and
select 'Formula Is' in the box next to it type in =E1=quot;Xquot;

Click Format button|Patterns select your color and click OK
Click OK again

I think I must be highllighting incorrectly as this only changes cell
A1 to grey when I enter the x in E1.
What am I doing wrong?

Click A1 then hold down the Shfit Button click each cell B1-D1. then do
the conditional Formatting.--
