So how versatile is this thing? I checked one out today, and really enjoyed it, but only played for about 5 minutes. Just about anything (unless it REALLY sucks) will sound good for that long. I'm curious about how good it would sound with a modeling device used in front. Any opinions?

FLAMEKASTER color scheme....
I am thinking about something along these lines for the FLAMEKASTER'S
color scheme. I may try to outline the flames in some sort of white or off white. The whole theme is to keep this puppy minimal. I plan on a rub on stain. What do yall think? Oh and remember that the flames are carved in!

Too Much Bass.....Help!
I play a Les Paul Studio with stock pickups through a Boogie Single Rectifier and Marshall 1960A cab. My problem is that I am getting too much bass, specially at one particular frequency. I tried changing tube type and went from a 6L6 to EL34...sounds good but still too much bass. Should I lower the height of the pickups? I'm also thinking of putting in a Full Shred in the Bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck...what do you think?
(By the way, my Bass setting on the amp is around 1 or sometimes all the way down....and I usually play in an open D tuning)

Why are Epi Customs Better?
Aside from the gold plating and color, how are they different from other Les Pauls? The consensus on the board is that these are at least a cut above the other Epi LP's. Are they made with different wood?

hot stack review?
can someone give me a review of the hot stack (in neck or middle position)? I'd like to know all the info i can about this pup. Also how does it sound split? I am considering replacing my HR101 in the neck of my ESP and this is one that i'm considering. The only other pickup in the guitar is a JB (sh-4). this is a guitar like mine only i got the blue one.

Los Lonely Boys: Velvet Sky solo help
What's up guys.
I need some help with the outro solo from Velvet Sky. The part I'm having trouble with begins at 3:59 in the song. It sounds like this triplet strumming thing, with wah. I have the LLB DVD, and for that part Henry is strumming in the regular place, and over the high fret area of the neck. Kind of looks like he's alternating between the two areas to create different strummingg tones. I can't seem to get it right, and I'm not sure If I'm missing something or what. I also hear this done in another song on the album, I think it happens in Senorita, and I seen SRV do this a couple times.

Big Question (Active vs Passive)
Hello All, I recognise this as a very common question but I've never read any answer to fully clear it up for me. I've recently purchased an ESP Eclipse II guitar (beautiful f*amp;king guitar) and I use a Boss Metal Zone pedal with a Marshall JCM600 combo amp. The guitar has an EMG 60/81 pickup configuration and I'm extremely happy with the clarity and tone of this new guitar, but I'm really itching to swap those pickups over for a gold plated SD Jazz/JB Combination as I believe the sound could be even better for my tastes. My interests in music are Metallica, Megadeth, Velvet Revolver, Guns and Roses to name a few and I'm after a versatile pickup that sounds best for clean tone but also for Metal/Heavy Rock. Contridicting a lot of EMG supporters I'd have to say that I personally think they aren't producing the clarity that I want. Compared to the SD's I've had previously in my other guitar in my opinion the EMGs sound quite dull. As I say this I realise that with the different guitar wood and tone in my new guitar there is a lot of different variables so I'm not entirely sure. Can someone please explain not in technical terms but in musical terms what the sound differences are between active and passive pickups, what musical styles they suit and whats better for what? Also this guitar seems to pickup plectrum picking noise more than my other guitar. Is this a product of the active pickups? Phew thanks
