Last night as I was tuning up my new Standard, I noticed a strange harmonic at the fifth fret of the low E. When I hit the fifth fret harmonic under gain, the tone is uneven. It is just like hitting the fifth and seventh fret harmonics on two strings that are out of tune- you get that fluctuation. It is only on the low E, no other strings. Is this a quot;wolf tonequot;? The string tunes and intonates fine, and fretted notes sound fine. It is only when I hit a harmonic. I just checked it again, and accually it does has tha fluctuation on all the harmonics all the way down the neck. I tried raising the action, it did nothing.

Thanks to a seemingly innocent guitar trade (my Ibanez 7 string for a decked out Strat), I feel myself becoming a quot;Fender guy.quot; I've never really thought much of them (the company as a whole), but a MIM standard body, midnight wine finish, with a Deluxe neck, big 70's headstock, rosewood board, and 3 killer pickups (blue amp; silver Lace sensors, Duncan Livewire Hot) in a tortoise shell pickguard have made me start singing a different tune.

Are these quot;tightquot; pickups? How trebly is the Custom? Does the magnet in the Custom Custom weaken over time, since it's an alnico 2? How is the Custom Custom in a heavy metal setting with complicated rhythms, is it clear or mush? It seems to me that most of the med to high output Duncans are trebly with a scooped midrange.

Okay I have an Invader in my alder jackson and was going to put a jazz in the neck because of course it would be perfect BUT they do not have Jazz's where I live... Well they do but they are bridges...So Im in quite a pickle. What neck pup goes with the invader??? HELP!!!In case you dont know i play mostly metal.

I've got a 100 Watt Fender amp thats too loud for my uses.
I heard you can remove 2 power tubes to drop it down to 50 Watts... I've also heard that it doesn't make that much difference, but something is better than nothing. =)

The only manufacturer I know of to address this issue is Kinman -- his website brags quot;you can now have your E-strings back!quot; I bought a neck model of his a few years ago (AVn 56 I think -- pretty mellow) and it was as advertised, the poles lined up perfectly with the strings in the neck position.
