Maybe it's a stupid question, but..with aging a pickup's magnet gets weaker I believe? What does that do to the (original) sound?

This is a question for strat players who've used the SD pickup booster. How well does the resonant switch emulate the humbucking sound?Thanks,

I'm gonna be swappin out some pu's in my EBMM here pretty soon, replace the jb with a JB trembucker, and the stock two dimarzios with duncans. I already have the duckbucker, and was planning on getting a little 59 neck, but I've got a hot rails neck on hand and REALLY don't have the money to buy a lil 59 right now. So...is this a good combo? Just wondering if its worth my time to experement.

Hey guys, I have a Peavey Classic Chorus 212 solid state combo and I was wondering if I can use an external speaker cab with it? I have had this amp since about 1990 and never had the need for a cab but since a friend has one for sale cheap I thought, Why not?

So I'm done wiring my guitar. the SD's definitely sound different than the EMG's. Here is what I have noticed so far:

OK. I just bought an Agile AL-3000 Les Paul Goldtop copy. I am VERY happy with it. Looks great, plays great and really does sound great with the stock pickups. I know that it woudl sound better with a little Seymour lovin'. What wouldn't? Anyway, I wanted to get some feedback from everyone on what I should drop in. I asked a similar question eons ago and was told that a Custom in the Bridge and a Vintage in the neck would be the ideal. I am fine with that but I wanted to get an updated opinion.

I have heard that strats (and guitars in general) can have unique sonic properties such that pickup XYZ in strat A may not sound the same in Strat B.

Alright, on my mandolin, the bass strings are quot;thuddyquot;. They dont resonate well. I'm thinking of doing something I saw a slide guitarist do in Dan E's guitar player repair guide. Should I make grooves in the saddle where the D and G strings are and replace the grooves that I cut out with deer antler? I know it'll brighten up the sound and make the bass strings stand out more than they are now, but I'm not so sure it'll be worth the effort.

Hey guys I've been looking for new pickups for my Ibanez SA160QM and I really need your guys help because I haven't had the opportunity to try the variety of pickups out. I own a guitar with a mahagony body and maple neck. However, the body is really thin so the tone won't be nearly as fat as say....a Les Paul. I'm looking for a bridge pickup that will give me a nice fat tone without muddiness. In addition, I'm gonna be using the guitar for a variety of stuff including metalish songs (megadeth) and punkish songs (weezer/sum41). So far...i've been leaning more towards Dimarzio pickups such as the Tone Zone, Air Zone, and Breed. But feel free to recommend SD pickups. Oh yea, since this is a mahagony bodied guitar...I dont want too much low end becuase I'm afraid the mahagony will make it muddy.

The tape on a humbucker doesn't make any difference to tone right? So why does SD use that cloth tape and not just normal black electrical tape?

I've never had pickups installed before so I need your advice as to what wiring would be best. I've got a JB for the bridge, Vintage Rails for the middle, and Cool Rails for the neck. It's a 5-way switch. How would YOU wire this (I gotta explain this to the music store guy so please don't make it extremely complicated)?

I have just been having a look in the vault. I have a Gamp;L Legacy, with what I believe are vintage staggered pups wired in the traditional strat setup. I intend to add a jumper mod to give me tone control over the bridge pup. My question is this, does the 50's mod have the same effect as fitting the treble bleed mod. I am noticing a considrable drop off of treble as I decrease the volume so am looking to put that right. Any opinions as which mod you guys think is best would be gratefully received. The hints, tips and schematics around here are fantastic. I currently work as a radar tech, so have a grasp of electronics and the info available is superb. I was looking at doing either SH2 Jazz(N) and SH4 JB(B) or SH1 '59(N) with the SH4 JB(B). My question is the place I am ordering from advertises them as gold, nickle, and black. Does that mean they all have covers? I would prefer all nickel covers over the black with nickle screws. The picture on the site has the SH1 with a cover, do the SH4 and SH2 have covers?
