So I'm done wiring my guitar. the SD's definitely sound different than the EMG's. Here is what I have noticed so far:

1. All three SD pups sound more alike than the EMGs. The Jazz and the DD dont sound as different han the SA and 81. The lil 59 is also only subtely different from the DD. I'm actually disappointed in this aspect of the pickups.

My EMG SA is clean and glassy. And my EMG 81 is sizzling distortion, and in the middle position when they're mixed, it's a perfect blend. But they are at totally opposite ends of the spectrum.

The SD's do sound different but not as polar.

2. The SD's have much less harmonics. It's weird. the SD actually sound about as loud and actually may have more mids than the EMGs. But I cannot get as much harmonics screaming out of the SD's. Not even close. Very disappointed here. But the SD's have a tonal quality about them that is very nice. Growling mids and a fullness that I really enjoy. I just want to sit and strum chords on the SD's, whereas on my EMG's I want to shred.

All in all, I think they are both great pickups. I am happy with both. I really wish the JAzz was a bit more glassy, but it's cool. NExt project I'm going Dimarzio. Thanks for listening to me babble.
