The tape on a humbucker doesn't make any difference to tone right? So why does SD use that cloth tape and not just normal black electrical tape?
Its looks a whole lot better.
hopefully evan will find out and tell us
if i had to guess, i'd say it was the mojo, baby ... mojo
i also think it is a bit easier to work with and retains its shape better if you need to remove and reapply it
but really, it's the mojo
cheers

As a technical point, electrical tape isn't quot;tapequot; in the classic sense of the word. It isn't meant to hold things together. Its a portable, temporary wire insulation. The cloth tape on a pickup is intended to hold stuff together, along with being a type of protection.
They're really two different applications.
I'm guessing it doesn't have much to do with Mojo.
I think it probably has alot to do with thefact that Electrial tape is very easy to puncture. Even accidentally. And Duncan being the smart fella he is, probably realized this. And figured quot;well If someones paying $70(or more) for a pickup they probably don't want that pickup to accidentally get smacked with a pick while playing, and have they're coils gouged. Better use something strong, and protectivequot;.
He probably also realizes that, Less damaged pickups = Less returns = Less repair costs he has to eat. And also if sumone buys a pickup from him, and that pickup breaks really easily, they're not too likely to Buy another from him.
A good bussiness always trys to make quality product (and duncan is the best), If for no other reason, than to get return customers. (and also to have happy customers recommend the product to others). Just common sense really.Ed
p.s.
But I might be wrong. And it might just be Mojo.
