what is the underlying formula for the percentrank function

The PercentRank formula of...
PERCENTRANK(array,x,significance)
where...
array is the array or range of data with numeric values that defines
relative standing.
x is the value for which you want to know the rank.
comes from...
=(MATCH(x,array)-1)/(COUNTA(array)-1)
