I had an Excel Workbook open and Windows Update Automatically Restarted my
computer. All of my changes were lost!!!! This is a major bug. WIndows
should not be allowed to restart if you have unsaved documents open. At
least this option should be customizable.

Who would you blame if you had a power failure, or your computer simply
crashed, as they sometimes do?

Years ago, one of the computer magazines said that if you watch highly
experienced typists, you'll notice they often exhibit a strange twitch every
so often with their left hands. What they're doing is hitting a very
important keystroke combination: CTRL-S, which is the Save command in many
programs, including Excel and Word. This would be a good habit to adopt,
grasshopper.

If you're doing experimental things to an existing sheet, and you'd rather
not save until you're sure you like the results, make a copy and experiment
that that, instead. Then, do a Save As, and give it the same name as the
previous version.
Windows Update always prompts me before restarting.
If I try to restart with an unsaved Excel sheet open, I am prompted to save
the sheet.
You are suggesting that your system has overridden not one, but two
safeguards. I doubt that has happened.

My Windows Update is set to Automatically Download and Install Updates. Is
yours?

Doug, I agree with you. I am not saying that I am not responsible to save
every 5 minutes. I am just saying that I should have been prompted to save
changes. That is a bug.
