Is this possible? I'm starting with a pivot table with 2 data fields (Sales
and %Change). I have the data sorted by Sales, which is what I want. I
don't, however, want the Sales field to be displayed. When I hide the Sales
field, my sorting goes away. After further experimentation, I've found that
hiding a data field is nothing more than removing it from the pivot table.
Is there a way that I can only display %Change, but have my data sorted by
Sales?

Thanks!

Jeff

I have one simple question to u
How Can A pivot table be built with 2 fields?
one for row
second for column amp; third about data
which one is missing?

Lets assume 1) product Name as row, 2) month/year as column,
3) (i)sales amp; (ii) % change as data.

when I click the data (list box) amp; remove the tick of sales figure
there is no change in % change data. So I dont have problem at all.
every thing is all right.

Have I mis-understood u ? If yes plz explain again I will try again--

Region). I have 1 field in the column area (Item Category). Then, I began
with 2 fields in the data area (Sales and %Change). I want the Pivot Table
sorted by Item Category (with Item Category sorted in descending order based
on Sales). When both data fields are in the Pivot Table, I have no problem
having my Item Categories sorted in this way. The problem is that when I
hide the Sales field, the Item Categories go back to their default sorting of
alphabetical. I think the problem I'm finding is that when you hide a data
field, it really isn't hidden....it is removed. So I guess another way to
ask the question is: Can you sort a Pivot Table based on a data field that
is not actually in the Pivot Table. I'm guessing not, but I'd love to be
wrong.

Thanks for your time Roger and ExcelPower. It appears that I will have to
use a work around.
