If I create a circular reference purposely, the circular reference
toolbar does not appear and no warning is displayed.

The quot;Formula Auditingquot; toolbar's Evaluate Formula button correctly
identifies the circular reference, but when I force the quot;Circular
Referencequot; toolbar out of hiding (customise, etcetera), the quot;Navigate
Circular Referencequot; combo box is empty. It remains empty even when I
select or activate the cell containing the circular reference.

The reference needn't be anything complex.
E.G.
A1 = A2
A2 = A1

Iterations are working. EG 500 iterations increases the values by 1000

Automatic calculation is also working fine.

Excel 2002 SP3.

How can I get the Circular Reference toolbar to function correctly?Nevermind.

It seems the Circular Reference error/toolbar is not shown when
iterations are turned on and this dependency is not documented in the
help file.Hi!

If you set iteration *before* you actually create the circular reference
(either intentional or accidental) you'll get no warning but you should see
quot;Calculatequot; in the Status bar.

If you create the circular reference without setting iteration then you'll
get the pop-up warning. If you select quot;OKquot; from the warning dialog then the
toolbar opens.

Thanks Biff. That matches what I have seen now.

The relevant circular reference was only counting the cells in a column
above a rolling point from a fixed point, including the current cell,
as a condition for determining which of two formulae to use in order to
produce a discontinuous function. So the actual calculation (aside
from the choice of which to use) was unaffected by the circular
reference. I can understand why the circular reference subsystem would
leave out the nuance of whether an end calculation was affected - too
many possibilities.

In the end, I excluded the current cell from the count and added 1.
Same effect, no more circular reference!
