I'm in the early stages of designing a guitar to build for my brother, and could use some pickup suggestions. It'll probably be a Strat body, and he wants to use if for slide. All pickup types (Hum, Single, P-90) are a possibility. I'm looking for something that'll be more on the sweet side (George Harrison, Duane Allman), maybe up to a Joe Walsh kind of sound, but not as raunchy as the George Thorogood tone. Anybody have any ideas?

Just wondering... on a 3-way switch, in a guitar with 2 humbuckers, what does the quot;middlequot; setting do? Does it take the 'inside' coil of each humbucker?

I need some advice.. I'm looking for a new set of pickups for a Jackson PS-4 (H-S-H).. Problem is, I really don't know what I'm doing. I've been playing guitar for several years but don't know the first thing about pickups. And, since this isn't a $2000 guitar played on a $2000 amp, I don't know if it'd even be worthwhile to replace the pickups.. Here's the situation:

So I'm turnin on my rig the the other day and sit down with my white Warmoth strat and do a little strumming with the neck pickup...sounds great as always. i flick to the bridge pickup and...NOTHING! No sound at all.

i have an '89 Les Paul Custom and a '01 Les Paul Custom that I've never had set up. I don't really have any complaints about them but I sometimes wonder if taking them to get tweaked isn't a bad idea. Seeing as setups cost about $50 or so around here, is it worth trying to get them professionally set up? I can set my own intonation and the string height is good with no buzz but I wonder could the string height be lower? Right now on both its at about 2mm at the 12th fret. Think a pro could get it better than that? Thoughts?

Well ladies and germs, it's time I inform you of some of my ideas.

When I play unplugged, the unwound strings hit a resonance frequency that makes the tremolo springs ring. Especially since I don't use the trem right now, I'm thinking of putting some foam or cloth in the back of the guitar to muffle the springs. I don't see a problem with doing this. It seems to be a no-brainer easy fix.
