What a great question. I love the compactness of the Roland Cubes. It depends on which Cube you're talking about. I'm getting ready to get a Cube 15 for practice. But I absolutely love the online demo that Johnny Demarco does for the Cube 60. On the other hand many Line 6 owners may have a different view. I just love how Roland can get all that sound in such a small sized amp.

Cubes!

I've had both, and for me, I kept the Cube 60. The Spider seemed more for a younger market interested in many distortion effects (with pulsing lights). The Cube is simpler to use, and yet very flexible. It seems well built, and has great pick dynamics. They both can get pretty loud. For Jazz and Blues, and I think the Cube is better.

I'm not very interested in built in effects. I want a good quality clean, and I will use my own pedals.

I've got a cube 30 amp; a spider II 15 watt.

The cube is better overall, but like anything else it depends on your taste.

The spider is loud, built well, but is more suited if you like crazy distortion/metal (their insane channel is insane!) The crunch mode is their version of a vintage marshall tone, and its actually not bad. It has some interesting quot;hiddenquot; features, distortion boost amp; a noise gate. The distortion boost dirties up the signal to each amp model, and I just discovered you can turn that on for the clean channel as well, which is essential because without it the clean channel sounds very weird. Also, the reverb is not that great, although the other fx are good if you like that sort of thing.

I've gone back amp; forth with this amp, at first I loved it, then I hated it, now I'm starting to appreciate it again. If you are under 30 and are a metal type, you will love this amp. If you are an old fart classic rocker you would probably prefer the roland, which throws off more vingtage style tones.

I have never heard the 15, but overall I think roland cube 30 is a better product, but it's $70 more than the spider 15. The cube 15 I believe is actually cheaper than the spider. If I was starting from scratch, I would probably get the behringer vintager at $100 bucks and go from there, you should check those out, they are a great value.

The roland has something for everyone, whereas the spider is more quot;youthquot; oriented. If you like your metal, go with the spider, if you like more variety, go with the cube.

go for the cube. my experiences with the spider line has been nothing more than disapointing.

As far as clean, it's hard to find a better clean that the Roland JC. It really sounds great.CoachC
