I've got a strat with a humbucker in the bridge and two Dimarzio HS-2's (neck, mid). I wanted to try an Alnico II Pro Humbucker in the bridge. Being that the APH-1 has a D.C. Resistance of 7.85k, and the HS-2's read at 14.97K, will the neck and middle pickups be louder than the bridge pickup? From what I've read the HS-2's are considered to have a fairly moderate output (90mV) even though the D.C. Resistance reads high. Does anyone know what the ouput reading on an APH-1 is?
Hey man Welcom to the Forum!!!
You'll find a plethora of knowledge here!Taken from the Torres site: quot;A Les Paul has about four times the output of a Telecaster and about six times the output of a Rickenbacker.quot;
The humbucker is going to have more output simply because there is a larger magnetic field and two coils wired together. In addition to that the 500k ohm pots also contribute to getting more signal to your amp.
Now to answer your questions. I have an Alnico 2 Pro bridge (A2P(b) and Mine reads about 8.03 on the meter as far as DC resistance goes. As far as millivolt output I don't know strictly b/c that method is very subjective, lots of variables (string size, pick attack) if the industry could do some kind of standard output producing device it would helpful....but I digress.
I have a tele with a Quarter Pound (17.1K ohms) bridge and it gets great sounding overdrive but it doesn't hit my amp as hard overall as my A2P.
So if I were you and had a 1 volume 2 tone strat I'd not only put in the A2P but a 500K ohm pot for the bridge tone control as well. That will not only increase your output, but keep the pup from sounding muffled.
Hope that was clearer than mud...
Luke
Thanks Luke, that was exactly the kind of info I was after!
