This incredible pickup was included on many late 80's/early 90's Jackson and Charvels. It was made in America. It looks like a Duncan. It sounds absolutely incredible. After trying 20 or so Seymours and Dimarzios, I still like the J-90c the most. Can anyone help me? Was this built by Jackson or another company?
I don't know, I do know that it is a Ceramic humbucker with very high output. I have one sitting around and I was going to throw it in my new DK2 as I hate the Duncan Designed in there. But first I am going to try a Saraceno.

I've read somewhere that Gibson made these (500T). But.like anything you read on the web, is it B.S. or not?
I will ask over at the JCF forum, I am active there.

No clue as to who actually built it, but I have one in an 84 charvel that flat out kicks arse. Tight bottom with chunk and the highs have presence without being harsh. No comparison to some later Jacksons that I've played that were just plain bad. Wish my old one was trem spaced.
According to the guys over at JCF, they were built in-house with Abigail Ybarra as one of the people winding the pickups.

It looks really similar, doesn't it??
They were built by Grover amp; Co.
You can never underestimate the mind that belongs to Grover Jackson, that man is genius.
Here's a statement in the Jackson Electronics Catalog that I scanned for the JCF...

NO.
All Jackson Pickups and electronics were built in house.... BTW, Abigail Ybarra, Fender Custom Shop Guru, used to wind for Jackson, and she was actually bought back by Fender, ironically J/C had acquired her as part of the CBS buyouts about 15 years prior... Talk about Seller´s remorse
The J-90 C is apprximately the same as a JB with a standard sized Ceramic magnet, BTW, also one of my favorite pickups
I´m pretty sure I answered this exact question just 2 days ago, though
So the J90C would be similar to a JB with a ceramic magnet from a Custom in it? That would make it a true quot;Distortion Lite.quot; I thought it was a good pickup, but I replaced it with a Distortion.

Yep, that´s what my ears hear.... They´re not an exact match, but close enough that I´ll wager most can´t tell the difference
