what kind of flashy tricks do you do in your solo spot on stage? i've noticed I've never seen anywhere on the internet for showing people flashy tricks that look cool on guitar
Not quite sure what you mean... Are you thinking in the direction of quot;stage movesquot;?
sortof like unusual stuff that you'd do at a gig, ill give you an example
my guitar teacher today was talking about this thing he used to do on stage, where he'd hammer on and pull off quickly 2 notes, and point 2 fingers at the crowd and wiggle them. another one was pushing down on his floating bridge so the note went higher, while pretending to bend the neck up, so people would go quot;wow! hes bending his neck so the note goes higherquot;
just funny stuff like that
Haha. I like the one when you hold a two note powerchord with your indexfinger and you pinky and the other fingers behind the neck.
I use a Les Paul, so I often overbend a pinched harmonic note on the bass strings to emulate some whammy flash tricks
Just check out Steve Vai.
Haha sounds awesome. Keep 'em coming!
Oh yeah, this is the kinda thread you could move to Off-Topic and get a lot more answers, because it's not neither here nor there. I'm sure others would love reading this stuff too.
how would one go about moving it though? I dont think you can move even your own threads if your not an administrator
Grab the mic stand and play slide with it. It won't be the most accurate slide solo that you'll ever play, but crowds seem to like it.
Well, it's not really a stage trick, but I love messing around with pick sliding and natural harmonics.... Just to add an extra layer to the riff.
Stage tricks:
Spinning the guitar around your body. MUST HAVE STRAPLOCKS!!!! Personally, I think it looks a bit tacky, but the crowd likes it.
Surfing the audience whilst still playing... If you can do it, it rocks... I've only seen it done once successfully.
Bending a note and holding up the guitar neck parallel to your body... Slash style.
And other silly things like that...
Probably already mentioned, but holding the neck at the low frets with your right hand and playing 100% legato is a cool trick. Vai and Satch do that a lot.
Mabe playing with your teeth like Hendrix?

smashing your guitar to bits and pieces, eating it and then lighting your hair on fire always gets a rise out of the crowd....but only if you are naked and smeared in peanut butter.
Slide player, Eric Sardinas, has a great trick of putting his thumb in the top of a beer bottle, and playing a frantic slide solo with the beer. At the end of the solo when he's doing screaming slide licks he pulls his thumb out of the bottle and the beer foam flies into the air. Looks like an orgasmic ending to his great slide solo.
Another good one I've copped from Michael Angelo is playing single note riffs by flapping your hand over and under the neck.....fret a note over, then fret a note under. If you practice it long enough you can pull it off pretty smoothly. People are blown away by this trick! I learned how to play Master of Puppets, making every other note 'over the neck'. I got in a mini guitar war with a metal kid at a music store one time, and shut that boy down with that trick! LOL
