A little wiring puzzle...
I have an ES 335-style semi hollow with traditional 2 volume, 2 tone controls.
I would like to wire it with a master volume and a blend control, so that when both p'ups are selected the blend control is engaged, but when either p'up is selected the blend control has no effect.
What would be the simplest way to wire this?
Thanks in advance, gurus!
There isn't an easy way to isolate the signal with the exsisting 3 way switch to do what you want. You could add additional switching with a push-pull pot to route the 2 pickups signals to the blend circuit before the 3way and then engage it only in the middle position.
If you are looking to have independent volume control in the middle position so you can turn down one pickup without effecting the other there is an easier way than using a blend pot. Just switch the pickup hot lead (#3 terminal on the volume pot) and the switch lead (#2 terminal on the volume pot) for both pickups. Doing this will ground the individual pickup out of the circuit instead of the switch.
I just dont see a way to get the blend pot in there and only effect the signal in the middle position.
Robert,
Thanks for the response; I'm familiar with that mod, and it's really not the issue. A friend of mine has a couple of bass guitars with a blend control on the pickups and I just like the concept of one volume control. That way the blend knob becomes a sort of tone control when in the middle position.
I figured I would probably have to replace the 3-way p'up selector switch with at least a 2-pole to make this work; guess I'm right. (Wow!)
Anyone else have a set-up like this?
Thanks again...
