Hi guys
Was looking at 2 JCM models, one is the JCM800, 100watts. The other is a JCM2000 DSL 401, 40 watts. Duh ...
I'm intending to get either one of these amps and right now in a dilema. Both are selling at the same price just that one is USED, which is the JC800 and the other is BRAND NEW.
If any of you were me, which would you go for and why ???
Thanks a million !!!!
i'd go fer JCM 2000. do u live in a HDB flat?
PTE estate =)
loudness is no issue here
I'd get the smaller channel switching DSL. The only guitarist who needs a 100W is one who's wearing earplugs in a commercial rehearsal space, who needs enough volume to compete with a hard hitting drummer and bassist with a stack. If that's your situation, go for the power!! If not, you'll just turn your walls into baby powder with the amp on 4.
HAHAHA ... i love that description !!
I would have it station in my room most of the time and rehearsals will be in the same place.
The reason why I'm comtemplating is also because I'll be using the same AMP will be bringing it around wherever I go for open air gigs. So what I thought a 100watts may be a wiser choice.
What say you guys ?
i say it depends on what you play
if it were me i'd get the 800
From what I hear, alot of those DSL401's had bad reliability issues.
I've extensively tried a DSL401 (used 1 everyday for a year while I was at college), and it just doesn't compete with a JCM800 in any way, shape or form in my opinion.
Just my opinion
Ok.
I play blues, Rock and roll and neo-classical
then my mind is made up. I'll stick to the JCM 800
The size is slightly smaller than a DSL 401, but same weightage. duh ...
Thanks guys.
but seriously speaking if any would like to stop me from getting a JCM800 please feel free to drop a thread !! It will be in my hands prolly end of the month
I think you will be happy with the JCM800, great amps.
They do sound different... I prefer the sound of the DSL401. Maybe try to try one out if you can...

Yeah, you owned a 2x12quot;? Should be power when it comes to open air gigs
But frankly speaking the sound for a JCM is just louder than an average AVT.
I love the clean sound, but I prefer using a stomp or effects for the distortion instead of the stock OD. Comparing with the peavey 5150, its helluva difference man
If it was me making the decision. No brainer. I'd take the JCM800, 100 watts or not. It's just a better amp. I've tried the DSL401 and the sound was horrid. Maybe the one I tried was a bad one but I could not dial any pleasing tones out of it, and I was playing an LP Standard or PRS McCarty through it. The little MG15 micro stack next to it sounded better. Go figure.
Which model JCM800 is it? The older ones sound great, the later series have diodes in the lead channel and do not sound very good!
The channel switching ones have diodes, the single channel ones do not.

Its an old model JCM800.
100 watts. It has 2 master channels, one for clean and the other for overdrive
For each of the channels they have both treble, mid, bass and gain adjustments. There is an additional knob for the clean channel called, presence.
Maybe you guys have seen before, its almost the same size as the DSL 401. At the volume of 1 and gain at 5, the clean is quite loud already for the JCM800
I didn't realize the JCM 800 was also a combo. In that case, I'd get the 800, and completely retube it upon purchase. It's louder and cleaner, but fatter than the DSL.
Make sure you spend some time playing both.
If you have the opportunity to play them side by side, then play them both and pick which one YOU like best.

Yeah man. I totally agree with you, however the bad luck is that the amps are sold are different shops. One is the authorised dealer for Marshall, the other is selling TONNES of pre-owned stuff from made in US parker to Washburn custom shop guitars.
I wish I would test them out side by side. But serious speaking I tested the JCM 800 and I love the clean, however the OD sucks. I rather use a metal zone or some distortion stomp than the stock OD.
I didn't test the DSL 401 because the shop keeper is a test-must-buy attitude. So I'm finding out how does the DSL 401 goes. From the feedback I've gotten so far, it seems like the JCM 800 is more welcoming
What model specifically is the JCM800? Sounds like a 4211. Does it have reverb? 1X12 or 2X12?
yeah. i think its the 4211 . 1x12quot;
