I really have no need for a flight case, other than the potential trip out to Users Day. I know I can't check my guitar in it's normal case, and I can't carry an electic on in a case (can I?).

This one is a pretty decent deal (it seams). Looking for opinions on whether I can trust this case with my $1400 guitar on a cross country plane ride with a plane change inbetween.

I have a Coffin Case flight case, similar construction, handles a beating pretty well, my LP was just fine.

Can't you ask the stewards to hold a larger carry on in the front of the plane?

Not sure....I do know that the last couple of times I tried to carry on a garment bag, I had to fold it and stuff it overhead....the setwardess said there was no closet to hang them in anymore. I'd much rather carry it on board!

That particular case cannot be checked. It has to have recessed latches in order to go underneath the plane. On this page you can see examples of both types of latches: from : localhost/ Why not get a gig bag and carry it on?

I'm positive that I saw a girl with a gig bag getting on the plane Sunday morning... Don't know what they do with it if it doesn't fit overhead, but I see people with guitars in airports pretty regularly.

Generally they'll be willing to stow it in the little coat-rack area they have at the head of first class.

My brother flies back from L.A. every year and usually brings a bass with him when he does. He's never had a problem with them being unwilling to do that.

Of course, the guitar is in a gig bag. I have had a Fender molded case fit in the overhead bin without a problem. I also have had to check it and had no problems. Keep in mind that this was almost 10 years ago.

Road cases for guitars are kinda like regrettable tatoos; unless it's just one of thsoe situations you'll never really have much of a need for one versus a regular hardshell case. I bought one a few years back and the damned thing is just unreasonably heavy to really use for regular gigging.

You can always ship the guitar to where ever you are going via UPS or FED EX. just have it held there so you personaly have to pick it up. Its a bit pricy, but it should be pretty safe.
