Looking at the latest sam ash ad and they have this guitar listed for $674. Unlike most RG models this is mahogany with a maple cap in a transparent lavender. It has the edge 2 trem and two humbuckers rather than the usual HSH configuration. Oh yeah another interesting departure from the standard RG offering on this model is a neck thru design. That should add a little tone and sustain back after the trem is done ripping out the heart and soul. LOL. Floyds can't live with'em can't do stupid guitar gimmicks with out them. Thanks for any feed back.
Only thing I would say is I like the Wizard Prestige necks much more than the Wizard II. If you like a thin flat neck they are awesome. The Wizard II doesn't feel as fast. I have an RG 1570 and I really like it. The Edge Pro II seems to work well, very stable. I can pull off some cool Dime style Harmonic screams.
According to the description of the guitar the neck seems to be the same 5 piece minus the prestige title that is on the 1570. Also the 1570 comes with the edge trem. I am quite familiar with the 1570 as I just returned one. When I played it in the shop it was great but I could'nt leave well enough alone and had the tech at sam ash put 10's on the 1570 and it turned into a buzzing piece of garbage. If I find the RGT42 to my liking I will retain the stock 9's as the RG's don't seem to do well with a larger string gauge.
No, the RGT-42 has a Wizard II, while the RG-1570 has a Wizard. Two entirely different necks. The Wizard is the thinnest, and has a slim C profile. The Wizard II is a bit thinner, and has a flatter D profile.
You might consider the SZ series if you're looking for something with a fixed bridge. I played several of them and really liked the way they played. I wound up with a RG 7621 instead, which is quite awesome as well. (Yes I am currently an Ibanez fan boy)
Hey guys... My name is Jose and I am a RG´coholic or an Ibanez´holic, well i have a GRG which is a GIO model for the RG series... I expect to save some money and go for the RG 2550 which is one of my favorite guitars in the RG series, my ibanez´s neck i think is a wizard II, it isnt as thin as the wizard but the prestige necks are thinner with a D shape not a C like Kindred says... i would have to say the opposite... the neck through construction is a pro on the RG which gives more sustain, the edge 2 haven´t played with it but i can tell that the Edge trems and Lo Edge are the best in the ibanez lineup, the quot;ZRquot; Zero Resistance bridges seem to be better but i dont know... look up for the TRS and Lo TRS and the Edge 3 which are pieces of pure crap !!!
Good Luck
