Well, during the next couple a months im getting myself a gift( because im working) either a new amp or guitar, i already made a thread for an amp awhile back. Now per say i buy a guitar, it will be my guitar that is more suited for metal(Iron Maiden, Jag Panzer to anything from Pantera to Candlemass). I am thinking of a Jackson of some sort, pup configuration will most likely be HxH or HSS. What is a good choice for this kind of guitar?(I want a Floyd of some sort too)

EDIT: Just thought about a Godin Freeway Floyd, anyone try tone of these? if there as good as my godin, it would be a killer floyd guitar.

Charvel!

You can not go wrong with a Jackson/Charvel. It really depends on how much you are looking to spend. You can pick up used USA soloists (SL-1 and SL-2's) for $1000-$1200 on the used market and you can pickup Japenese SL-3's and 4's in the $500-$600 range. They are both super high quality guitars. The USA's have an ebony fingerboard, and original floyd Rose, and a bound neck. The Jap's have a rosewood board and a liscensed Floyd. They are both one hell of a good bang for the buck used. Or, you could go with a USA Dinky for probally the $800-$950 range. They are very similar to the SL-1's and 2's but they are bolt on necks instead of thru neck.

If you want to go the Charvel Route, the model 6's are SWEET so is the 650XL's and the 750XL's are my favorite. They can only be had on the used market.

I forgot to mention, these axes are hard to beat in terms of quality. When you get your hands all over one, you will love it.

Jackson Soloist Baby!!!

Jackson or Charvel are hard to beat in any price range. I still have my 1987 Charvel Model 2 and you can get those used for about $120. I'd bet good money that a quot;San Dimas snobquot; couldn't tell the difference between my Model 2 and a real San Dimas model blindfolded, they are killer guitars for the money. My next guitar will be from the Jackson custom shop, they are the only ones I would trust to build a guitar worth the $3830.00 they quoted for my custom shop guitar.

Cheers,

CJ

Yeah i was looking at the SL3/SL4's, more so the SL3, its already got duncans and its a H-S-S config, looks like a sweet guitar.

The SL-4's have Duncans also.

sorry theodie, i am still new to jacksons i guess, i mean i have always liked em', but i dont know too to much about them.

pretty much cant go wrong with a jackson or a charvel, lots of people like the ESP models, but as far as i'm concerned they are just a jackson rip off, don't get me wrong they are awesome guitars but i've always had a complex about them being the quot;epiphonequot; of jacksons

cough*cough*charvelmodel6*cough*cough

The SL2H's have SD pups, too, if you were to decide on an HH configuration. Either way, I don't think you'll go wrong.

If you want to save some money, go for an early 90's Jackson Pro series or Toothpaste logo series Charvel. They are imports, but are just as well made as their USA counterparts. They are much higher quality than the current line of imports as well. They don't make them like that anymore because they were taking sales away form the US series. I've got a Charvel 650xl, 2 750xls and I'm doing a 275 dlx project right now. I have yet to find a guitar that plays better than my Charvel 650xl, import or US.

I'll never stop crying over the fact that you can get a SL3 or 4 for 600 dollars... Here in the UK we should expect at least 800 pounds, which is over twice as much.

I concur with the model 6 :d

I would get a charvel model 6 if i could, i have heard lots a good stuff about them, but NO one is selling them used here. Plus im sorta set on a SL3 in the natural color, looks amazing IMO.

With a name like speed demon, you will LOVE the necks on SL-3's and 4's. Mine has to be the fastest neck I have ever played!!!! Butta!!!!

If I had it to do again, I would have got an HH instead of an HSS. My pick hits the middle pickup sometimes, and I do so wish I could drop a Jazz in the neck. The bolt-on neck is a little thinner than the neck-thru's, and a lighter package overall I think.

But all-in-all, the Jackson's make great metal guitars along with some of the other brands mentioned.

Id pick a jackson ke3 kelly anyday...great sound...good on clean but great distortion...I
