Or to be more specific, quot;Masters of Realityquot; tone?
SG with 59's?

Any luck at the ETSG forum? Not too many guys there know Duncans.

well, the first Sabbath record was a strat, after that it was almost ALWAYS SG's some with buckers and one with some oddball P-90's...

If I were looking for the early Sabbath thing I would get an SG, a set of 59's, an old Laney and a Beano Boost from analog man. Don't forget the light guage strings and start tuning down either a half step or a step and a half!

only one song(quot;Wicked Worldquot;) on the first sabbath album was a strat. everything else on the first 4 albums was the SG.

Iommi's early 60's SG had pickups similar to the Duncan 59's: alnico 5 Gibson humbuckers. However, so did Duane Allman's SG as did Clapton's SG that he used with Cream. All three players achieved thier own distinctive tone using the same pickups and SG guitars. What does that tell you? It tells me that there's a whole lot more to it than pickups and amps! Still: Duncan 59's would be the pickups to get that early 60's Gibson humbucker tone. Lew

I agree with Lew. Add in a cranked up Laney and a Dallas Rangemaster.

I read in an interview it was a strat as well.

ive'd read in several articles that it was a strat on only 1 or 2 tracks on the first album. here's one from GW's Collector's choice:I'm un sure about how much the Strat was used, i just knowe that it was his main guitar until one fo the pickups stopped working.

A beano boost is a copy of a Dallas Rangemaster treble booster which is a key ingredent to Tony's tone form the old days, as well as Brian May, Eric Clapton, and belive me lots more!

As for the Iommi pups, that are amazing pickups (I know, I have a pair) but they do NOT sound like old Sabbath

You could try lopping the ends of your fingers off in an industrial accident and getting yourself some prosthetic finger ends just like Iommi.

music123 is having a closeout sale on Gibson Tony Iommi pups.
