I just bought a new mahogany body IbanezRGT42DX-BP. Wonderful neck, awfull sounding pickups (inf 1 amp; 2). Tone wizard suggests JB or Custom in bridge. I play classic rock (Zeppelin, Rush, Deep Purple). I want a tone that cuts and crunches for rhythm and a lead sound that sings and is responsive. What do you reccomend in the bridge, JB or Custom ? (I play thru a Marshall)

Thanks,

ClassicRocker

Well, Custom would be my guess, but it really depends, theres other ones that might work better for you, so wait for some other people to chim in too.

both are sweet pups, i personally like the JB better, but the Custom is a very close second. You wouldn't regret either pup. Check out the tone examples and see which one you like better.

Custom

That's a tough choice as they're both great pickups. If you mainly play classic rock, you may want to consider the '59. The '59 nails the classic Zeppelin and Rush tones. The Custom sounds like a very aggressive '59 while the JB is more 80's metal (although it's very versatile). I've never been a huge fan of the JB for rhythm as it's not a particularly thick sounding pickup, but it sounds amazing for leads. It's a tad smoother than the Custom, while the Custom is thicker and ballsier.

Between the two, I would go with the Custom for the kind of music that you play.

Custom.

More questions...

Bolt on neck?

Maple top?

Mahogany set neck?bolt on with maple top? I'd go for the custom...you'll need the low mids and punch..

Bolt on with no maple top? the JB...it'll be a bit darker than alder...

Set neck with maple or no maple top? custom..will need the brightness of the custom but the high mids of the JB do not match well IMO w/ a setneck mahogany guitar..SPECIALLY if it has a maple top which adds brightness/high mids...to shrieky

Definately A Custom quot;a Higher Output 59' quot; Perfect For What Your Looking For. Chris

Thanks guys.
