Are these as good as a Real PRS? Are they better than the equivalently priced Epiphones? They look like a really nice offering.
PRS Santana SE
My friend has one, and when he got it, it was good, nut not any more. This could be because he doesn't look after his stuff, so that would be why it plays like hell nowadays, not that Santana SEs don't last very long.
It didn't have the best sound ever, but it still played really nice.
I was considering buying one because it was so reasonably priced and played and sounded real nice. I say they are a great deal.
They're about the best guitar you can buy for that price. I think the best ones were the PRS Korean SE's that had humbuckers and plastic binding on the neck/headstock. They were around $550. One thing I'll commend PRS on is that the SE necks are cut like US models. Usually, imports are skinnier than US models, but not with PRS. The Soapbar models are as little as $420, so that's a great guitar for low dollars.
With the 25quot; scale length, will it be brighter than say the comparable SG or LP?
I really like the earliest models. I'm not real crazy about the looks of the new ones. I thought they looked much better without the pickguard and with the pickup covers, but that's just personal. Everything I've heard is that they play real nice. From what I've heard the pickups are ok, but you might want to eventually replace them.
Thanks,

Cool info, 'bro!
I've given considerable thought to acquiring something along this line of PRS models someday, so these comments really are informative. Always been a big fan of Santana, love the sound immensely.
It'd be fun to have one of these in a Soapbar model, but I know I'd miss my humbuckers too much in a short amount of playing time, and with a guitar made out of good wood I'd naturally want to make the thing really jump with a sweet set of 'buckers.
But who knows, might actually acquire one of both some day.
Cheers!

I have a SE soapbar and I have played a SE Santana and I must say they are probally one of the best bangs for the buck in the world of guitars!!!!!
Are they as good as US-made PRS guitars? Generally not but if you look long enough you can find one that is exceptional. On average, I'd say they're better than the average Epi but when you're dealing with guitars in that price range you can find great instruments and dogs of the same model.
Play one before you buy it. The neck is thick which I like, but the profile is a bit weird. I've only played one of them though which belongs to a friend of mine, and he bought it maybe four years ago. It's a great guitar. It has a very full sound to it... but it's modern sounding.Edit: I went to the page, and it doesn't come in green. The guitar my friend has is a Santana SE, but it came with a trans green finish.
I'm still kicking myself for not getting an SE Soapbar when they still came in a Singlecut design.
I hope that PRS releases them again soon.

This is the best version of the SE's. I think they cost about $100 more than the ones without binding, but these ones are nice!Really nice guitars. Better than average fit and finish for the price range, and you get quite a bit of the character and cool design of a real PRS for your bucks.
I especially like the singlecut soapbars that came out for a while. Those guitars are really well designed and incredibly playable.
I love the Santana se, (early korean make) i have one which is fairly old without the pickguard and binding, They look so much better than the new ones and I think they play better after trying the new ones in the store (no comparison) so if your gonna buy one i wud recommend the first ones that came out which they dont sell any more. Fantastic aray of tones specially with a set of SD's and a push pull you can go from a nice strat jangle (SRV sound) to searing heavy rock tones with the flick of a switch. The cleans are fantastic, and the overdrive has a bright cutting sound but is still beefy. The tones are sort of like gibson but more metalic. Very versatlie I love it, and use it alot for gigging. Dills
I'm not a fan of the pickguard. The binding would look great with a trans finish though.
the (one) I played was tremendously heavy and not at all resonant. Still somehow sounded good and played excellently. Nearly bought one a while ago.
Other SEs are hit or miss.

I've always wanted to play a santana III, but unfortnatly no one I know has ever owned one and none of the shops around me have them. Anyone know what they're like?
