Okay ive been using my line6 dl4 delay stompbox for a while now since i got it and its been pretty good but i never really sat down and stuffed around with it too much, i just got a couple of delays and went with them...but now im not sure if they're as good as i could have them.
For starters i run it through my effects loop in my ENGL which is my main amp and run the loop signal totally wet, so the pedals and wah in front of the amp all run through the loop and through the delay...and my tone has been pretty good with it sofar. But i was wondering if this is a good way to use it, or if i should be finding more of a mid position of the effects loop mix and setting the delay differently on the delay unit...?
The reason i ask is that recently i went to my mates place to help him out with his rig and he is running a marshall rack preamp into a kittyhawk power amp and then into two 212 greenback cabs...and its a pretty massive sound! But for his delay he has a little boss sized digitech delay pedal which someone told him is the best on the market. But i was always saying how great the line6 dl4 is and he had heard similar things so he asked me to bring it over, then when we plugged it through his effects loop in the same way the digitech one was, it sounded really weird. Like distant and really processed, like it was taking heaps of the signal and chewing it all up and spitting crap back out!!! It sounded nothing like what my setup sounds like, and even when i put the loop mix of his preamp on full it sounded terrible, just all thin and small and digital. Where as the digitech one needed only about half the effects loop set for it and it sounded great!
Any ideas?
my thoughts are that the way his effects loop is implemented...ive never had anything but awesome sound from my DL4. I would give you knob settings, but since they are stored as presets, the knobs move, but the settings remain- it had been a bit since I sat down and came up with my seetings. In any case, it should not sound like that.
Try going in the front of the amp, and see if that works.
I would recommend trying it a little different way with respect to your effects loop. I would set all of the presets on the DL4 with the Mix all of the way up, giving you a maximum amount of effect (totally wet signal). I would do it this way to start, and then later adjust the Mix level for each preset to the desired level for each kind of delay that you use.
Next, I would adjust the effects mix on the amp to just enough mixed in to hear the amount of delay that you want to hear. By running the effects loop totally wet, you are losing a great deal of your unprocessed natural tone before it goes to the power amp.
Beyond that, I use the quot;Digital Delayquot; model most of the time. The other models are cool, but not useable as often as the plain ol' DD, IMO. If you don't have the owners manual for your DL4, it's pretty tough to remember what quot;Tweakquot; and Tweezquot; do on each different model. It is for me, anyway. You should also read what they recommend as the best way to set up the pedal. If you don't have the manual, find it here: from : localhost/line6.com/data/l/c0a8090beeaa... English.pdf
Thanks guys, especially HammerPlyr for PMing me beacuse yeah i dont get on here that much anymore and i probably would have never found this thread
