How many of you have modified your pole-pieces? Is it as easy as unscrewing the ploe-piece all the way out, shortening, and then screw back in?

I'm wondering what effect shortening the ploe-piece would have on a brite pup like a Pearly Gates bridge?

Thanks,

Mark

shortening the screw poles make the pup have more highs i dont recomend this on a already brighter than bright PG

It is actually as simple as you describe. Use a metal file to grind it down to your taste. Even 1/16quot; will make a noticeable difference. To my ear it adds upper mid beef more than true treble -- gives it more of a violin-quality on the sustain and more quot;upper-chunkquot; to the attack.

Also, the size of the polepiece head makes a difference. Gibson pole heads are bigger than Duncans and they give you more beef than standard Duncan heads (except for the Invader poles, of course).

longer poles gives mobe bass? The poles on my duncan go all the way threw the bottom. screamin demon

did you guys ever notice that dimarzio's are shorter than gibson and duncans

Interesting...

Are gibson pole-pieces available for purchase or would I have to scavenge them from somewhere? I would love to experiment with the tone of my new PG's.

FYI, I just dropped in a set of PG/A2P in a new Ibanez Artist. I'm completely happy with the A2P but the PG is just a bit on the trebly side after tweaking to what I consider optimal adjustments. I'm very close to what I'm after so I hope to get it with a minor fix and I think a little added beef could do it.

Here's what I'm thinking:

- I'll leave my original poles alone and get another set of SD poles. I'll shorten those a bit and try it.

- If I can find some Gibbo's with the larger head I'll try those.

- If that doesn't work I might replace the 500k tone pot with a 250 or 300k?

Thanks,

Mark
