i saw a new old stock lps in tobacco burst at the local dealer. its discontinued in 1998. price is about $750. i happened to be quite gibson-ignorant.

so folks, is this a good buy? thanks as always,
dani

dani, just curious, how are guitar prices in singapore compared to other countries like US or countries in Europe?

depending on brand. fender, gibson, prs and most usa-made guitars are just a tad cheaper than in usa. not so sure about europe though.

however, korean or japan-made stuff like tokai, ibanez, esp, edwards etc, are way cheaper. but not schecter diamond series. albeit being mik, their prices are similar to us. maybe the dealer chose to price it that way.

does that help?

With a hard case that seems like a heck of a deal. SG Classics are going for $850 with a gigbag.

did not ask if it comes with a hard case. i will be conservative and presume it comes with a gig bag. is it still a steal? any info on the quality?

thanks!
dani

I don't know what they go for, but it does sound like a good deal assuming it is on par with the SG Classics. It looks to be the Les Paul version. I f you can get a Gibby with binding for under $800 you are doing well IMO.

BTW, how do you guys get US made guitars for cheaper than us here in The States?

thanks for the info big black.

as to your question, i guess its how much the dealers choose to mark up. i understand that cost and selling price is a huge difference. i used to work in the local gibson/fender dealer a long time ago and staff were able to get up to 40% off the list price. now i understand that staff price is only 30% off. maybe they decided to lower their selling price to remain competitive.

just off the record, you will be surprised at the price new/used mia fender and gibson are commanding in japan. heck, even used epiphones cost about 3/4 of what a brand new epi would cost here. ironically, used vintage mij fender and gibson replicas such as fernandes, burny, tokai, greco etc made in the 70's to 80s are so highly priced in the us but cost next to nothing in japan. i bought a used mij fernandes strat and tokai strat for about $180 each and the average auction price off ebay is about $300 to $400. that said, the cost of each strat i bought is approximately 1/2 the price of a used mik epi in japan.

weird but true.
