ok, i was never a big pedal user but now i've been buying more and more pedals to complete my quot;collectionquot; and it's time to set up a board and use them a bit more. anyway, i need some help with what order to put them in and what goes into the loop and what in line with the guitar etc...
here are the pedals that i'll be using of the ones i own...
Boss TU-2 floor tuner
Dunlop CFH wah
Digitech whammy
MXR EVH phase 90
MXR Wylde overdrive
EH holy grail reverb
Boss flanger
Boss OC-2 octave pedal
Boss DD-3 delay
Boss NS-2 noise supressor
BBE sonic stomp
Tube screamer clone (build your own)
Morley Tremonti wah (sub in for CFH)
Loooper 2 looper to shut all this crap off lol*edit added the ns-2 to the list and my shopping cart online hehe since i think i'll need it with all this crap lol.
*edit 2 ditched the eq idea and ordered a bbe sonic stomp.
thanks.

i use a cheapy little dano 7 band and it works fine. Theres not a lot you can mess up on an EQ pedal amp; its only $30
a noise supressor would help, but be careful, if you turn them way up, they WILL totally **** up your tone
for order i would go tuner - wylde OD - octave - whammy - wah - reverb - flanger - phaser - delay
may also consider a buffer
and check your pm's
thanks drew i have that dano eq which i never use (which i'll sell with 2 other danos dirt cheap if anyone wants them, PM me)...i want to upgrade to a sniper modded ge-7 boss or the mxr ten band m-108 or mxr kerry king eq and i don't know which of the three would be better.
the only other thing with the order is i know some should go in the loop and some shouldn't so i need to figure out that also.
i'll check my pms after i write this.

Here's some tech tips on better understanding effects order and more. There are really no rules on how one should hook up effect pedals but in general, the ''proper'' way is suggested by the manufacturer to obtain the most out of each effect in the chain making them work with each other and not against each other. from : localhost/users.chariot.net.au/~gmarts/fx-order.htm
Hope this helps.
As for the EQ, the Boss GE-7 will work just fine modded or not. The new ones have already been tweaked by Boss/Roland to cut excessive noise. If you have the extra cash, then get the Dunlop/MXR 10 Band EQ. This will cover more tonal frequency than the GE-7 which only have 7 band. The Kerry King has pretty much the same features as the M-108 but with dual outputs for stereo applications, illuminated slider controls, cool ''tattoo'' graphics, and hardwire bypass (Dunlop's version of True Bypass switching). It's also $10 more than the M-108.
drp555 beat me to it!
thanks guys for the site, it should help a bunch!
as for eq the price doesn't matter much b/t the 3 i just want the better and quieter one. also it seems the KK mxr is $20 cheaper than the regualr MXR but also out of stock 'til 6/10. the sliders don't light up on the regular mxr 10 band? i'll have to look into that b/c that may be a nice thing to have.

here is the order i'd put them in:
before amp
Boss TU-2 floor tuner
Dunlop CFH wah
Digitech whammy
Boss OC-2 octave pedal
MXR EVH phase 90
MXR Wylde overdrive
In Loop:
Boss flanger
Boss DD-3 delay
EH holy grail reverbBoss NS-2 noise supressor where ever you see fit.
thanks sky but i forgot to add...i did get a a bbe sonic stomp just now so i need to find a place in the loop or out of the loop for that also...i'll check that link above and see what it says...i guess i can consider the bbe a form of eq and treat it as one since i doubt that site has it listed.
-Mike
put the bbe last in the chain (after reverb) as it does a bit more than just equalization. it actually realigns the signal so that the frequencies are hitting the speakers at the same time and not cancelling each other out.
thanks again sky...that makes sence...but shouldn't i put the phaser before the wah so it phases evenly over the wha'd sounds and doesn't make the phaser go with the wah? eh...i can switch that up and try a few ideas but that's a good basic pattern to try. thanks!
-Mike
well, i was having trouble trying to place it actually. that one would have to be trial and error. but remember, there are no hard and fast rules to this. I just placed them where i think they would sound the best. but i see no problem with putting the phaser first (right after the tuner). It's more or less what will be used with what and how you want to arrange them on your pedal board after that (IE: let's say you will never use the phasor with the whammy or wah, so you can put it after and not affect the tone when you use it with anything else. see what i mean?).
but hey, good luck on your tone quest.
thanks again sky, at least i have a good map to work from now
well i also ordered a build your own tube screamer kit to throw in the mix now and again which i forgot to add. also i decided on ordering a 2 loooper so i can shut all this crap off when i'm not using it since some of it is not true bypass along with a morley tremonti wah which will sub in for the CFH wah at times or replace it perhaps. my pedal collection is 98% complete...i think...well, for now hehe. it's amazing i managed to not buy another guitar and get my FX setup in order instead!

Just looking, that's how I'd start....I'd do some tweeking of course to see what works best in which order. The Whammy'd be either out front or in the loop, depending on what kind of noises you want to make. I prefer phase before distortion, but lots of people like it after.....
Anything you use all the time (like wah and OD) you should probably leave out of the Loooper's loop. Only noisy things really need to go in it anyway.
The noise gate can go anywhere, but I feel that the closer they are to the source of the noise the less they kill the tone of the effects after it.....so, if it's your pickups that're making the nosie, put it right after your wah (I only say that because some wahs apperently don't like buffered input signals). If it's a pedal, put it right after the pedal. Preamps making the noise.....
Generally, the BBE should be used last in the chain.

-MikeMike the best way I can explain it is Modulating effects should go thru a effects loop, where Distortion/ OD and aWah type of effects should go straight in.
As you know I use 2 Amps a MArshall and a Fender. I made my board mainly because of the wiring nightmare. I have a DOD TR3 which has Delay, Chorus and OD (I never use the OD). This runs thru the effects loop in the Marshal. In the Front of the Marshall I have an old Bluesbreaker Pedal straight in. In the Fender I have a Boss CE2, a DD3, and a Spins modded TS9. All this comes together to a Morely A/B box which allows me to set the effects on before I switch Amps. After the A/B box I have a Spina modded Crybaby and a Matrix stage tuner the guitar plugs in to the tuner. I have wired everything with George L cables which are absolutley quiet. Generally all you can hear is the mild hiss of the Drive from my 900, and maybe a little 60 cycle hum from my Strat or Tele.
I know your setup won't have to be this complex seeing that you will be using one Amp. I would say to take the Delay, Flange, and Chorus effects and run these thru the loop, take all the others and run them straight in. Good Luck and if you want some help call me!!
thanks Dave...maybe after all the new stuff and the pedalboard gets here i'll set it all up and bring it by Cris' and we can move stuff around and play with some ideas to find some cool sounds.
you'd be amazed what cool things you can do with an octave pedal, a whammy and a phaser on all at once hahaha.
this is going to be a strange change for me since in the past i've done..guitar...tuner...phaser...amp. i figured it's time to step up and play with my sound a bit for certain songs.
