I'm looking for a new tremolo to go with my ESP Maverick. What tremolo manufacturers are there that compete with Floyd or Kahler? Oddly enough, I hate the bar. Is there one that has an interesting design without a bar? Thanks....
These days there's really only Floyd Rose, Wilkinson, Bigsby, 6 screw vintage Fender trem or the 2 point Fender American standard trem.
All tremolos have a bar so you're out of luck unless you go with a hardtail.
Kahler was supposedly back in business but it's taking a while for thier stuff to get out
If your not going to use the bar then fill it the hole (if its set for a recessed floyd or similiar) and put in a vintage trem and block it.
You don't want the bar? I don't get it -- it's like a car without a steering wheel.
Maybe he doesn't like the design of the bar? I'm looking to build a custom shred style guitar and I want to be able to use the tremolo but I can't stand how the floating bridges go out of tune when bending and playing on other strings so I'm wondering what's right for me as well.

I thought he didn't like the idea of a bar at all.
You can crank up the springs in the back so the trem sits flat against the body of the guitar, and the higher tension will prevent the other strings from going flat when you bend one.

That's what I've been doing with my Strat but when I'm playing metal I really dig the looser feel of the floating bridge. It's kind of a catch 22 if you ask me...I'll try to figure this out..
