Hi i just got a new Vox valvetronix 30 watt amp and i'm a bit confused on how to use it. What the difference between the Volume knob and the master knob? I'm trying to get just a normal clean sound out of it with the effects turned off but i can't get the sound very loud. how much gain should be on when i'm playing it clean?

volume would probably act as somewhat of a gain control for natural overdrive of the differnt amp models.......if you want real volume, you need to turn the master volume up

that being said, you want the volume lower, and the master higher for a clean tone.....now, if there are distortion model effects on there, they may be on, and why your not getting a clean tone........ wait for fellow forum member StratDeluxer to see this thread, hes all-knowing about these amps lol

Your Vox's Master volume is a global volume in that it controls every preset and the overall volume of the whole amp...

The volume control allows you to adjust individual preset volumes so they all match each other...You set the preset volume and then save that setting...Next time you switch to another preset, you can compare it to the preset you just left and adjust the volume levels so they're all about the same..

Basically you can adjust your master volume anywhere you want it and leave it there, then based on the setting you have your amp set to on the back(1,15,30 watt etc)you can just adjust your other volume for each preset..I find the amp to sound best when you crank the master volume up well over half way(Like 3 o'clock or higher)...This gets that preamp tube working..

Read through your manual about 3 times like I did with my amp and it'll all make sense to you..

Like Stratdeluxer was telling you, use the the power attenuator on the back of the amp. Unlike the the vtx series the 30 watt model has infinite control just like a pot. For a clean sound using a preset, use one of the first selection on the left of the dial of your amp model selector knob. For a manual clean, keep the gain down and jack up the master. Enjoy, these are great amps.

I'm not all all familiar with the other series, just the VTX 60 and 120 series...The manual is still your best bet..
