so it turns out I am not going to have the funds for a new amp or guitar for christmas and I want to get something for my guitars. I have stock pots in my guitars. What tonal difference will come with nicer pots. I have 250k's in my mim tele(hotsk/vinstk) and 500s in my squier stage master(JB/Jazz).
You probably won't notice much of a sonic difference if your stock pots really measure what they are labeled as (I doubt it). What you will notice is more consistent taper, and CTS pots just plain feel better than what comes in most guitars stock. They also last longer.
I thought fender installed CTS stock though......

I'll have to open up this tele and take a look. The squier needs some new electronics pretty bad anyways. That guitar used to get heavily used.
Squier uses oriental parts..not CTS. Lose that stuff and get the Fender branded CTS pots (last of the good batch) and a CRL switch...
For the Squier, i'd recommend getting some CTS pots from Black Rose Customs. You can order them so that they are guaranteed to be over 500K.
It will open the sound right up.
But maybe you wanna have 250k Pots for the JB/jazz to warm it up
