I've heard about them over on the LP forum, but don't know how good their rep is (or is not)

They have an Yngwie Strat in stock. I can't find one anywhere locally. And a 48 hour quot;trialquot; period. So if it's a dud , I can send back. None of my local dealers will order one for me to try (understandable, but aggravating).

I've never read a bad word about them ... all good reports

I have a friend who's bought at least one guitar from them, and spoke well of their service.

Honestly I have to say this model meets my criteria more than any other for the intended purpose.

Slightly hotter, not quite so twangy pups (but still quot;cleanquot; SC's)
fatter neck
3 way switch
RW board
brass nut is nice
I *LIKE* the big headstock
vintage trem bridge (I believe they sound better than the modern type bridges)
bridge tone control

And I have really been wanting to try a scalloped neck for awhile to work on my technique (I'm entirely too aggressive a player).

Just damn difficult to find one to play with, and I don't want to order from SamAsh.com or something as I know it will likely be a mess for set-up (and Strats I find quite a bit more difficult to work on than Gibsons). I figure these guys will send it out playing great and then I will just have to tweak a bit to taste if it's a keeper.

I agree with everything except the pickups - they are definitely NOT hotter, they're a good 10% down on output from, say, an SSL-1. They do have a stronger midrange component, but they're extremely mild from an output perspective.

I also have a small beef about the cosmetics - mint guard and PU covers, but aged white knobs? And pure white backplate?

Oh well, they are great guitars and the necks are to die for...

Admiral...thanks. You're right..hotter is not correct...warmer and less twangy under high gain (i.e. handles high gain better) than a typical quot;vintagequot; strat pup is more what I was thinking. I had a pair of HS-3's in a jackson many years ago, and you just couldn't overload the damn things (of course they didn't have rectifiers then though either, LOL)

They're local to me. I had one less-than-stellar experience but I'll chalk it up to catching Steve on a bad day. He has an exceptional reputation locally as well as online.
