Thanks to the Guitar Player mag that I saw on the news stand, I discovered that my Olympic white JV strat looks just like Hendrix's '68, woodstock strat.
Is that cool or what?
It's just needs a few more scratches and...
What would he leave the Tex Mex's in it? Did he search through mulitudes of pickups and amps until he found his sound? Or would go with Surfers? would he even care?
are those questions as to whether hendrix would have?
The Tex Mex pickups are good pickups. I like Duncan SSL-1's or Antiquitys or Fralins better, of course, but the Tex Mex pickups sound just fine. Lew
Purely rhetorical questions. What would he do if he were here today. yes, what would he have. Would he be like Clapton playing the Fender Hot Noiseless pups? Still playing through Marshalls?
i dont think he would care much about pickups, other than them being some flavor of low vintage output single coils
Lew and flank
I think your right!
You guys rock!
Was Hendrix a bridge pickup guy? which pup combos did he prefer?

ya hendrix was all over his guitar pup-wise. he always went from neck to bridge, or anywhere in between. as for what kind of pickups.. i agree with flank - he probably wouldnt care. hendrix was never really into super fancy guitars (or at least thats my opinion). he just liked a strat to fuzz to wah to amp. from what i hear and read, he wasnt real picky. he just liked to rock, and he didnt worry too much at all about tone, or even being perfectly in tune for that matter.
I have a set of Fender Custom Shop Custom 69's wound by Abigail Ybarra in my Jimi/Joe Perry lefty strat, they do a nice job.
Hendrix had his pickups wound backwards. He also played cheap fender knock offs and an acoustic guitar he bought for 15$. He didn't seem to mind trashing his equiptment.
jimi did like the few strats that he used on stage though....he played and bought lots of strats and ended up just giving them away to people.....and by the end, he had 2 or 3 that he used most of the time

WhoFanno...The pickups that come in a JV Strat can only be gotten in a JV strat
FYI
The specs on the JV strat Tex Mex pickups as given to me are:
Bridge:
DC Resistance-7.4K
Inductance-3.7 Henries
Middle:
DC Resistance-6.4K
Inductance-2.75 Henries
Neck:
DC Resistance-6.4K
Inductance-2.75 Henries
A guy over at the FDP gave me these stats. I assume that they are correct. The pickups sound pretty good to me. Great notch 2 and 4 tones!
The only difference between the JV Tex Mex pups and the Tex Mex pups is that in the JV set, it has a slightly hotter bridge pup. That's it.

How can the tex mex pickups be different if the pickups in the JV strat are tex mex's? I've done my fair share of playing on both guitars (I breifly owned a JV strat) and they sounded no different from one another. The only difference was that the bridge pickup was a little hotter. THAT'S IT.

Did you like them BeanDip? Do you think Hendrix would care if they were in his strat? Would he like the ol' JV strat?
