Folks say that if you play this guitar or this amp you will hear more of yourself than anything else. So what's your thoughts? Particularly on the amp side. Vote for your two and let's hear why.

None of the above so I chose the booteek/other combination. My reference rig would be a PRS into a Dumble.

CRAP I knew I'd forget something!

Kind of a rigged question for me since I play through a Line6 amp. The guitar is definitely a Les Paul. As far as amps, it definitely has to be JCM800 and on modern. I reckon I'll hit other for the amp choice.

I never liked dumble amps... the V-amp 2 has a model of them, and it just soudsn TERRIBLE with my epi 335, especially if you use a plectrum - all harsh, gritty and treble, sore on the ears... Can I ask why ya play them, aleclee?

Because they sound a lot better than the V-Amp model

Personally, the most quot;mequot; is an acoustic. Then, it has to be a superstrat type electric - can't beat em! (IMO of course )

Amps.. I play modelling atm, dunno what I'd change up to. I'm liking ENGL stuff though!

Ech, once I change my bridge pickup, I'll be quite happy with my epi 335, Boss SD-2, V-amp 2 and fender 650

i think he means the setup that you hear yourself as a player more. Like the setup that you really feel and hear yourself coming through the mix, not the equipment.

The setup that makes you as a player sound good, not the setup where the equipment is what makes you sound good.

computer chips are very close, but no cigar IMO. You can't perfectly duplicate the tone of a blackface deluxe turned up to 7 with it's tubes delivering a natural sustaining overdrive and the rectifier offering a sweet sag to add that much more expression to your notes. Don't tell me a POD can replicate that perfectly.

And if some modeling gear can cost 400 bucks, plus a PA to amplify it, you might as well get a used vintage fender/marshall and have the real thing for not much more.

Sounds like a lousy model, to be honest. The Dumble and those amps based upon it are anything but harsh or gritty. As for treble, they're much less ice picky than your typical Fender or even Marshall.
If you haven't played one (I actually haven't) or one of the good clones like Two Rock or Fuchs (I have), it's hard to explain what's so cool. Not only can you go from SRV tone to Santana tone (both Dumble users), you can get there simply by changing your pick attack.

If the Behringer is all that and a bag o' chips for you, that's cool. I dig my PodXT Live. Its models don't always sound like the corresponding amps that I've actually played and owned but there are some nice tones to be found in there. As good as it sounds, it just doesn't feel like a good tube amp.

Unless of course you use modeling gear to sound nothing like the amps they emulate. I tend to make up my own combos of effects/amp models, some of which sound nothing like a guitar. The old Fender amp is heavy and gets 1 classic sound, which isn't the one I want.

Les paul for sure on guitar, but for amps i voted other because i get a lot of quot;mequot; through both my ENGL and my mesa 50cal, for rock and jazz respectively

And i need a wah for that extra quot;mequot; tone

I went for a strat through a tweed....To me there's nothing quite like the sound of a great strat with great pickups through a 4x10 bass man.....one day I will own a 59 bassman, even if it's just a reissue
